I bought one of these lions at a car boot sale for £1.50 (I'm a huge Leapfrog fan), but thought I had a faulty version as when I put batteries in it, it played the 'I'm am a lion ...' song a few times then reverted to a little tune everytime the tummy was rolled, I tried another set of batteries and again, only had the good tune for a few rolls, I thought I had a dud. My 10 month old daughter received another lion on Christmas Day, I didn't really look at the instructions and gave her the Lion - sure enough, even a brand new one reverted to the little tune rather than the full song. As I was packing up all the Christmas packaging, I realised that the Lion comes with a daytime action mode and a nighttime quiet mode. I had been pressing the little heart on the lions tummy which had put the lion into night time mode. Now that I know how to work the toy, I am really pleased with it - had I not have read the instructions, it would have been one of those toys left at the bottom of the toy box. I guess, you don't expect to need instructions for babies toys ... It is cute though and when my daughter received her car boot version a few months back - she was 7 months old, she very quickly learned how to roll the tummy to make a tune - teaching her cause and effect. Now she's a little older, I sing the song with her and 'reach up high' and 'reach down low', her first real action song. She does love playing with it and now I think I'll be keeping both lions as I'm sure this is going to be a favourite toy!

At 6 months my son thought the roll & rhyme Lion & Elephant were just the best thing out, 2 years later he still thinks they are wonderful.

We were glad when LeapFrog gave them a facelift so that we could treat his brother to another set in the knowledge that we wouldn't mix them up.

But be warned Animals with Appy & Shapes with Ella are the original roll & ryhmes with the same songs, just differant packing.

I personally would have given this lion one star, with its annoying saccharin American accent and infantile, earworm rhymes. However my daughter loves it - her face lights up every time she sees it and she never gets tired of the main "I am a lion, I roar all day..." song. She has learned to roar, and can roll the tummy round to change the songs. Its entertainment value is limited, the songs will eat their way into your brain and stay there FOR EVER - but it's all worth it for the smile on a baby's face.
PS if you didn't bother reading the instructions, press the heart button for five seconds and the songs will turn off. Good call.

I showed this toy to my baby at just two months old. He quickly learned how to use the moving cylinder which plays music. It is a simple toy and not that much educational as it says. I have an older child who does not find it fascinating.

This is a really nice toy - my little niece loves it.

It has a gentle light that you can put on at night, and the songs and colours are lovely.

It's very easy for little ones to spin his tummy and they'll love the animal sounds. Then he can lie in bed with them at night and emit a soothing glow to send them off to sleep.

A toy I definitely recommend.

I bought this along side LeapFrog Letters with Lulu and LeapFrog Shapes with Ella None of them are great, but decent for the price.
What i love about this one is the voice. It is quite amusing but not as good as Ella whom my daughter also preferred. She really liked playing with Ella and Appy when she was younger. Now she isn't too bothered as the toys are aimed at the very young babies, rather than my 'grown up' walking talking (kind of) angel:)
A few things that make me not like this and the other 2 in the range is that it is hard. Not at all cuddly like some electronic toys manage with ease. It is also impossible to stick the Velcro together. I don't see why they felt the need to skimp on the fabric. Surely it can not be hard to add abit extra so the Velcro can actually stick properly, and would not cost much more money to do this. Not to mention the fact the fabric looks and feels cheap.
These now reside at the bottom of her toy box.

Picked up this toy for my friends baby boy (4 Months old), he loved it straight away, listening to the sounds and even touching the belly to change the sounds. Great toy
