A nice collection of "old Fashioned SF " stories-- A bit like the Twilight zone in the 60's..
The production values were significantly better the the Twilight Zone but perhaps not as good as the very best you get today
An enjoyable way to spend an evening

Some of these epoisodes are good.
Some of them are horribly malformed from the original short stories.
Some of them are squashed and chopped, others stretched out into paper-thin plots.
I like a couple of them, so they were worth the cheap price.
Others were incredibly annoying at the way they'd been chewed up, but hey, worth flicking through....
However, no surprise there was no season 2....

Marvelous DVD, the stories are great, wonderful mix of serious and comedic but all make you think. There are six hour long episodes over two discs, each episode is written by a different Sci-Fi writer or adapted from a short story, and directed by different directors (Johnathan Frakes even directs an episode). It features actors such as Judy Davis, John Hurt, Brian Dennehy, Anne Heche, Sean Astin and Malcolm McDowell as well as others. If you are a fan of Sci-Fi then you'll greatly enjoy this DVD. It arrived within the estimated delivery date and there were no problems at all. All in all 5/5.

As other reviewers have noted these are more like plays than films; a lot of dialogue to listen to and a lot of complexity of situation to grasp in some of the stories. These have been chosen to reflect certain issues arising in the present day and give pause for thought. They are all well acted and in the main well scripted and directed, though they are far from the complexity of say 'Cloud atlas'. No one could describe them as overburdened with special effects of any kind. They are subtle in an age that has little taste for subtle.
1. A clean escape
2. Jerry was a man
3. The awakening
4. Little brother
5. Watched
6. The discarded
The stories touch on the value placed on synthetic humans, how judgement by robotic intelligence might be thwarted, on the use of drones to control criminals, and making sure that politicians take responsibility for their actions, how we treat the 'disabled'/ugly among us, and the arrival of unexpected angels.....

The idea behind this show is fantastic: dramatize the best classic science fiction short stories, stories based ideas rather than action, with leading dramatic actors. The pitiful execution is a very sad failure that will make it much harder for this extremely promising concept to be carried out in the future.

I saw an episode on TV then shortly after I bought this DVD, I was skeptical at first as this one didnt do quite so well as Masters of Horror and got a cruddy review to boot...anyway as it turns out Masters of Sci-fi is worth your time, Mick Garris delivers another good show.

I saw this release few years ago in a second hand shop and was intrigued by it.

The show debuted on ABC on August 4, 2007 for a run of four episodes. It was originally scheduled to run in six parts, but two episodes were removed from the schedule for undisclosed reasons. Now I understand why.

The release itself is a basic two-disc DVD with no subtitles and extras. 3 episodes on each disc.
