4.0 out of 5 stars The Helio Who??????, 9 April 2008
This review is from: Keep Your Eyes Ahead (Audio CD)
This was my question when I first heard this record. A band with a chequered but as yet mostly undiscovered past. The band have been in existence since 1999, however a forced 4 year lay off scuppered the band when singer Brandon Summers damaged his vocal chords. Since 2004 he has relearnt to sing, and the band have written and recorded this magnificent album.

Sound wise it's clear from the off that the band have a big sound despite many of the tracks being based around a solo acoustic guitar. Additionally odd synth/keyboard sounds make their presence known on various tracks, adding to their reverby wall of sound. Beginning with the majestic Lately, the band show a clear knack for writing a great melody. There's plenty of variety too, as slower, tender moments like Shed Your Love and Broken Afternoon mingle with big pop songs such as the title track.

And just when you thought you had the band pinned, the last track No Regrets just throws everything out of context. It is very roughly recorded and played. You'll either love it or hate it, but the quality of the album before it will be enough to dispel even those who aren't so fond of it.

Already a clear contender for one of the best albums of 2008.

Shreddie Monster (London, En-ger-land) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Keep Your Eyes Ahead (Audio CD)
I came across this band after hearing 'Hallelujah' on Soma FM's Indie Pop Rocks (an excellent internet station which I'd highly recommend for discovering unknown bands) and was increasingly captivated by their brand of catchy, polished and orginal 'happy indie'. 'Back to Me' is my favourite, but given the quality of the album, hardly a standout.

While the style is fairly consistently steady, uplifting indie, there is plenty of diversity in the tracks, from the ambigious, "I'm not in love" style lyrics of the opener, "Lately", ("Lately, I don't think of you at all. Or wonder what you're up to, or how you're getting on. I never think of calling you or how things could have been." - superb), to the anthemic "Keep Your Eyes Ahead", the softer "Shed Your Love" and "Broken Afternoon" and the unexpected country riff of "No Regrets" to close, this is an album with plenty of depth. Highly recommended for music fans who like their indie positive and original.

This review is from: Keep Your Eyes Ahead (Audio CD)
Saw this american duo supporting at a Keane concert 06/10. Indie style music very easy to listen to and sing along too. They were excellent live and this CD captures that concert. Can't compare them with anything else I've heard before so have a listen you might be impressed as me and my partner were
