second season of the classic american sitcom comes to region two dvd. there are twenty two twenty five minute long episodes here across three discs, with nine each on the first two and four on the third.

Married with children is a viciously funny show about an ordinary guy called al bundy. living in chicago and working at a shoe shop selling shoes to mostly fat women, he has a lazy wife called peg, a bimbo teenage daugther called kelly, and a son bud who loves the ladies but who don't feel the same way about him. their strait laced neighbours steve and marcie rhodes are drawn into the bundy's world however much they may not want to.

After a first season that was more of a conventional sitcom the show starts it's journey into sharp cynical territory here, although it hasn't quite gotten to some of the surreal levels that later seasons reach. al is a wonderful character, an everyman whom anyone whose dreams have come to nothing can relate to. Twenty two very funny episodes result.

The only extra on this is thirteen hidden easter eggs featuring interviews with the cast. all can be found if you watch on a pc and move the pointer over the screens and they will light up new logos. a hint screen on disc one will guide you how to find them with a dvd remote. but be advised that all these interviews are merely clips from the reunion special that was an extra on the first season dvd, so they're nothing new.

One thing you won't possibly have seen before is the ending of the episode al loves peggy yeah yeah yeah. when originally broadcast this ended with viewers told to ring phone lines to vote on whether al should tell peggy he loves her, and repeat showings of this end without showing the resulting final scene. this has been restored for dvd. I won't say which ending they use, because there's only one, and I'm not sure if another actually still exists.

But this is a great show, and it's great to have it on region two dvd. hope we don't have to wait too long for season three

This comedy pushed the boundaries where no comedy had been pushed before. It is quite simply, hilarious. It is a crime that the terrestrial channels in the UK largely ignored this, and it was only when Sky gave it a run it found a large audience. Ed O'Neil is superb as Al Bundy. If you are easily offended, this comedy is not for you. If you like a belly laugh buy it now, and follow with the rest of the series.

Firstly may I say that although the first season had it's moments, there weren't many but the reason I gave it a good review was because the first season is about getting to know the characters and what kind of storylines to expect.

This season is superior in that it's not just got more funny moments and characters and better plotlines but there are three discs in this package (the first season only had two because it only had 13 episodes) because this season carries a staggering 22 episodes! Now with 22 episodes for one season for a sitcom you may think it would be in serious danger of outstaying it's welcome but no not 'Married With Children', a sitcom much better than the trash like 'Friends' or 'Seinfeld'.

My favourite episode in this season is when Peggy's family come to stay and Al want's to watch 'Hondo'. Brilliant. Also for Xbox 360 owners in the UK out there please note that even though this should only play on Region 1 players, it should play on 360's or computers conneted to the web fine as it does on mine.

Get this series. In fact get all the seasons I order you!

Season Two of Married With Children is close to being twenty years old but needless to say the comedy is still as fresh today as it was then. Al bundy works as a shoe salesman and must provide for his layabout wife Peg and his two children Kelly and Bud. Much of the comedy is derived from this situation and the healthy disrespect each family member has for each other. But what makes this show so special is its legendary wit.

Bud is talking to his father Al. "So you're kind a like Thomas Jefferson?"

"That I am Bud."

"Then why do they call him a great man and you Butt-Head?"

"Dad, does being without a driver's licence make you feel like less than a man?"

"No son, that's your mother's job."

Al is talking to his best friend Steve. "They (women) need us as much as we need them, why? Because we can do the job and you can't take a battery home to meet your mother."

Al is talking to Peggy about sex. "The kids are upstairs so we probably shouldn't do it up there, what with your screaming."

"That was your fault Al. You were the one who turned the lights on."

It must be said that the performances from all the actors especially Ed O'Neill as Al and the very young David Faustino as Bud are flawless. This is just another reason as to what makes this comedy so great.

All 22 episodes of the second season are here and at less than twenty pounds from the U.S. I would consider that good value.
