5.0 out of 5 stars It's a sleeper, but now... wow, 2 Sep 2012

I bought this over a year ago, listened to it a couple of times then left it alone. It's very different from Transvision Vamp! Their final album does veer away more from straight power-pop to a funky pop-punk, but it is nothing to prepare you for this! I think my expectation was the main problem. Now I come back to it and have been playing it all the time.
It's funky, experimental, explicit, daring, sexy... Completely recommend, so long as you're open to that combination of sounds and not expecting Transvision Vamp mark 2.
One final thing, note that the physical CD comes with a 2nd CD with the demo version of 1st album; the MP3 download doesn't! Rancine 2 much better, but the demos make a good lesser album (I haven't got the original Rancine album)

4.0 out of 5 stars Blonde Ambition, 6 Sep 2014
This review is from: Racine 2 (Audio CD)
Following on from James excellent “Racine Number 1”, but where as that record was a very stripped down affair with Wendy playing all the musical instruments, the second record Wendy decided use a group musicians, & as you can expect with a band behind her she generates a much bigger sound, exploring a whole range of musical styles (punk, pop, rock, rock a’ Billy, sixties & even a bit of Brit-Pop).
It’s a more up tempo affair from the first album (which is positively laid back, with Wendy seemingly being at one with the world), but with “2”, Wendy does seem a lot more annoyed, with plenty of effing & jeffing.
The second disc features a demo of “Number 1”, which Is a little odd, as the finished record has quite a demo feel to it, but thankfully Wendy decided to remove all the voice-overs & other bits of other people’s music.
So a another confident self-written album from a singer-songwriter who defiantly done enough to earned the respect of the music industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great sequel, 7 July 2008

Nice to see Wendy James has ben able to evolve from her Vamp era and come back with something that sort of bridges the gap between conventional pop and arty rock.

Racine (1) was great and it was debatable how well she could follow it up, but, after seemingly listening to what are - ever expanding - army of fans have wanted on Myspace, she has come up with more of the same, but with an updated feel.

All in all well worth it - a possibly overlooked littl gem.

Looking forward to Racine 3.

This album is amazing, the sound is like Transvision Vamp and when i first heard it thought they had reformed, the music is rock and catchy and reminiscent of the 80's and early 90's. A welcome return for Wendy James!

The last Racine album (Number 1) was really good - especially if you listened to it a few times. This album has a slightly different sound and perhaps more instant appeal. It has great songs with a good variety of pace and fun lyrics. I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Disc, 30 Dec 2010
This review is from: Racine 2 (Audio CD)
It is a double CD, in the C 1 we play 11 good songs often very influenced by The Velvet Underground and other groups.
The second disc is a recopilation of Demos, these demos are disco songs but with really electric guitars sounds.
Wendy James reborn like a phoenix, out of more commercial music.
Concerning the delivery of the CD has been successful, has arrived in good condition and on time and price with all your music provided.

Only one thing to say:

Enjoy with Wendy James!!!
