5.0 out of 5 stars Airbourne at speed of sound in the stratosphere.
Standard riffs, standard lyrics, standard chords - but hey, why change a tried and tested formula? These Aussie lads can put the power on and no mistake! Sure its Bon, Angus, Malcolm et al from their early days, but as I'm sure even AC/DC would say, "We all have to start out somewhere". The great music wheel has spun round once more and now it's Airbourne's turn. They...

3.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of room for improvement
After a few listens to this, some irritations become clear.

The vocalist's range is limited from 'shouting' to 'shouting louder' - and any 'song' consists of simply alternating between the two.

The lyrics are clumsy at best. For example, in Cheap Wine & Cheaper Women, the line 'Women come and go, they never do remain' grates with me every time I hear...

You know what - I sat thinking of what to write here and couldn't put it in words... so looking for inspiration, I'm listening to Stand Up for Rock'n'Roll as I write this and I can't come up with any words that Amazon will print...

Damn its good...

3.0 out of 5 stars Five stars ? - yer `avin a giraffe !!!, 3 Jun 2008

Thats the last c.d. I buy based solely on amazon reviews . How many of you people are a) Related to the band , or b) Australian ? - most of you - surely !
Dont get me wrong , I`m all for new metal bands , and its not half bad , but five stars ! c`mon please ! How many stars would you give to the real deal like "Highway to hell" or "Back in Black" ? - fifty five ??
The trouble with it is , when you base your style so directly onto another group (AC/DC-obviously !) then your going to have to accept the inevitable comparisons - and basically , there isnt one ! one guy reveiwing the aussie import version actually said that this is what D.C would have sounded like if Bon had lived - HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH - actually , thats not funny !!!!!
Bon was a complete one off - a modern day poet and genius . The guy from Airbourne`s voice is , well.... monotonous really - in fact by the third track its starting to get on your nerves a bit .
Some of the riffs are good and catchy , but the whole thing just lacks a little bit of sophistication . Anyway dont let me put you off , if its your thing - go for it , but at least listen to it first !!!

3.0 out of 5 stars AC/DC wannabe's, 14 May 2008

Well, I suppose whilst you wait for the next AC/DC album, this one might keep you happy for a short while. But ultimately they are a pale immitation.

First few songs are nice enough, the rest are average. It's a fun album but nothing special.

I bought this on the basis of fantastic reviews in all the papers in Sydney when I was there a few weeks ago. I should have guessed from the cover what this was going to be like. It is pure NWOBHM but not as good. Like going back 20 years. In fact, if this had been released at that time, it would have been an also ran album. ACDC, Rose Tattoo (whatever you have heard) this aint. Pub rock at best. Very disappointing and a waste of $22aud at Fish records.
