I thought from other reviews that the red might be the "wrong" colour. However, it's a nice deep red which is not what it looks like in the picture (it looks a bit "orangey" in the picture). The bell is the traditional "brng brng" of my youth and really brings back some memories. It looks a bit "placky" at first but you soon get used to it. The handset is a nice weight but be warned - those that remember being able to hook the phone between shoulder and ear will have no chance with this model. The back of the handset rises to a ridge (see picture) and so makes it impossible to jam into the shoulder without it slipping and turning. All in all, I thinks its a great uncomplicated phone. The middle bit that says "Wait for Dial Tone" is the Hold and Redial rocker button (upper for Hold and lower for Redial).

So nice to actually pick and have a long conversation with a large comfortable handset. Also nice to know you're not frying your brain with electromagnetic radiation as with a mobile. Perfect blend of old and new.

I have bought this phone before X-mas, to put it under the tree as a present for my wife. Unfortunately she found her present before 25th Dec, therefore I plugged it and it was used since then with no problems at all. It is made with good quality materials, not the cheap plastic. It is really easy to use and looks great. You just plug it to your phone socket, and thats it. This is our only phone in the house... It works as well as it looks. 5 star product, no doubt. Just buy it!

I begged for this for my christmas present as fell in love with it..until i took it out the box. It is smaller than i thought and very boxy and plasticy and just doesn't look as good as it does in the pictures. The colour is lovely but i could not tell you what it is as it is neither red nor fuschia nor burgundy. However I couldn't send it back as a present so went home and plugged it in. Which is when I found that the cable is far too short. My dreams of wondering round the front room holding my phone were gone (I am sad I know but i used to do this at my grandmas and in my dads office when i was little hence desire for the phone) and had to rearrange my lounge so phone could literally sit next to the phone socket. On an actual call phone is comfy enough but is a little bit heavy and you cannot comfortably fit it between your neck and ear as we used to. Ring tone was fine. Could hear other person fine on conversation to and no interference. On ending call phone does not sit nicely in cradle so you need to make sure you've ended the call beofre replacing it. So i thought phone was fine basic but that was what i was expecting and it did still look good! So would have been prepared to award 4 stars as phone does exactly what it said it would. Until the next day when I had to phone virgin media. As you may be aware this is one of those press button 1 for customer service lines. THIS PHONE DOES NOT WORK ON THESE NUMBERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will not accept your choice and after 30 minutes I ended up plugging in my old phone and starting again. I find it unacceptable that a new phone (this is a new phone not an upgrade of an original) cannot provide this simple function and for that reason alone it gets 2 1/2 stars.

I have no idea what some of the other folks were expecting when they ordered this phone, but I'm absolutely thrilled to bits and pieces with mine!

It arrived today and upon opening the box and unpacking the phone, I thought it looked brilliant, and in my opinion, I think it looks very much like an original Bakelite phone. Although made of plastic - it's not an over shiny plastic, so although it catches the light, it does so in such a way that it doesn't look like a cheap imitation. It has both the right look and the right feel to it and looks authentic. Oh .. and the colour is a deep red. Imagine a glass of deep red wine, burgundy or perhaps port. It's deep red, not a bright pillar box red, which again, adds to that authentic look.

It sounds authentic too. It has that good old fashioned 'dring dring' ring when someone calls. Oh ... and the base unit is not light weight as someone else has said, it's quite heavy and weighted - so it doesn't move around like some of the more modern looking phones do. (A real pain in the rear end when you're on the phone ... I've cut off many folks because the phone moved and the wire has pressed down on the buttons, cutting the caller off!). It's not so heavy that you can't pick it up, but it's certainly not light weight.

If I needed another phone I would absolutely buy another one of these in a heartbeat. I love mine already and I've only had it a few hours.

I highly recommend this phone.

Firstly, this phone is quite large and heavy so if you are looking for a small neat phone, this is not the phone for you. However, the colour is a nice deep red and the ringing sound is the traditional bell ring.
It would look great on a console or desk.Overall, i think this is an ideal purchase if you are looking for a dreyfuss/traditional looking phone.Compared to other retailers, the price is very reasonable.

This is a fabulous phone - and just what I was looking for. It is easy to use and very substantial without being heavy. It works well and looks great - people comment on it all the time - and it has a smashing old fashioned ring. I highly recommend this.

Just what we wanted, classic style with a bell that rings like the old phones used to. Made of chunky plastic that's great to hold, has that solid feel about it. Looks good in our living room too!

Ordered this on Wednesday afternoon arrived Friday afternoon, very nice quality just what we needed to fit in with the new lounge decor. Dont have any second thoughts about this if it suits your style then get it. This is a good value item, nice on the eye and moderately heavy in feel, the bell ring instantly takes us back in time, again great delivery, as described and no fuss, thats why we shop with Amazon. Order with confidence.

I bought this despite some bad reviews. It is a nice phone and it has an authentic weighty feel to it onthe top rather than cheap plastic. The dark red colour is nice. No, you cannot easily rest the handset between your shoulder and your ear, the handle part is v shaped (not easily identifiable in the photos), but it's not too much of a problem. The high and low volume is for the ear piece volume, which is noce. The only reason I am giving the phone 4 stars is because, compared to the old/vintage phones, the ringer is too quiet which is hard to hear depending on where you are in the house--up the stairs, asleep, with the door closed, not a chance...and there isn't an option to make it louder...which would be much more useful than pulse dialing these days, especially as some phone networks no longer recognize pulse dialtone. It's a shame really that they made what I think is a nice phone and then put a crap ringer in it.
