4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy!!! and solid but weights jiggle when curling,
This review is from: Bodymax 2 x 32.5kg Selectabell Dumbbells (Misc.)These are the cheapest adjustable dumbells that seem to be around. They may not look like the Bowflex 1090 dumbells, but they are more compact as the weights are solid steel, not plastic. Also maybe not as beautifull, but then you are hopefully going to pump steel and not just look at them.
The range of possible weights is great and is easy to use. I did have problem when I first chose a selection, as one of the small end weights did fall out. I belive this happend because the lock wasn't down properly. this hasn't happened again so must have just been a fluke.
In order to change the weight selection, there is a red thumb button that needs to be pushed; then you can turn the knob to your required weight.
The handle fits the hand very nicely and is made of rubber and steel, the only plastic parts on it are the weight dial knob, but even this is well made.
I find that they feel really good when doing chest type workouts on the bench. As for curling the weights they do jingle a bit, in that they are not tightly locked and have maybe 1mm of give. I therefore turn them at a angle to try and stop the jiggle of the weights.
Not bad for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic dumbbells!,
This review is from: Bodymax 2 x 32.5kg Selectabell Dumbbells (Misc.)Got these boxed, unopened, brand new WITH stand ...... all for £200. Couldn't believe my luck. Had them couple weeks now and so far, no complaints. Very well made. Nice rubber grips. Great amount of weight! At 32.5kg each, heavier than most other similar products and much cheaper. The amount of excercises you can perform is staggering. This is equivalent to a full rack of dumbbells and takes up very little space. Ingenious design .... tried looking at the inner workings and its just a mind boggling mechanism!! Think having the stand is also quite important. Tried it without and sometimes the plastic tray got pulled up with the weights. Not a huge deal but the stand has wheels and makes shuffling bout my home gym much easier and would recommend that you get that too. Small warning .... first time I used them I selected weight and yanked the handle up a bit quick and an unselected weight got dragged up with the bell and fell on my toe. After it happens once you know to be careful. Greased them up with WD40 and they glide in and out no probs now. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended by a champion over Bowflex & Powerblock,
This review is from: Bodymax 2 x 32.5kg Selectabell Dumbbells (Misc.)The 5 stars here refer to the fact that I love this set of weight, rather than it being a 5 star product - because they're not... There are still ways they could be improved, but overall I do love them.
They have shaved a lot of time of my work outs and, especially if you're doing something like P90X or circuit training, you can expect to save a lot of time because you won't constantly be changing plates.
The weight change mechanism is simple and relatively safe to use... Although this is perhaps the one area the weights could be improved.
The mechanism is plastic and would be better if it was slightly more solid but it doesn't feel to flimsy - the inner working of it are metal at least, it's just the dials which are not.
Weights are selected by depressing a little red button on each dumbell and turning the dial to the desired weight. The total weight is clearly marked, making selection easy, and I think this is a better system than on. Som either selectable dumbells (although I've never used them myself) like the pullout bars on powerblocks and the latch system on other sets.
You also get a good range of weight with these dumbells going all the way up to 32KG. That's significantly more than other sets and works out a lot cheaper than, say, buying a set of stage 1 and stage 2 Powerblocks. The weight increments that are selectable are listed for you at the bottom of this review.
I like the look of them too. They are a kind of copy of the Bowflex weights, but again I think these are slightly better because although they might not look quite as cool they are actually better quality and better to use. I say this because they are a bit shorter in length than the Boxflex weights and the plates are made from metal not plastic.
Some minor problems with them I have encountered are:
The dumbells turning themselves upside down when used on their lowest setting. That's because, at 5KGs, there is no plate on the weight - you are in effect just using the handles - and these are slightly top heavy due to the selectabell mechanism, so have a tendency to flip round on you.
The plates do rattle a little, but I don't really mind this and much prefer it to the old problem I had which was collars coming lose mid set. Also the trays the weights sit in are plastic which feels a bit cheap... It keeps weight and cost down though I suppose.
Although there is a good range of weights I would have liked to have seen a little more range between the range if you will - for instance, at the lower end of the spectrum the settings jump from 12.5kg to 15kg which is quite a lot... It would have been nice to have the options of slightly smaller increments between weights.
The weights do get stuck every now and then when going in and out of the plate tray, but this is easily overcome with a little wiggling and the more you use them and become familiar with them, the less this happens: it's a matter of technique.
On the plus side though, the dumbell handles feel just right. They are a nice size to wrap your hand around and have rubber detailing to aid grip too. Also, a neat little design feature is the flat bottom edge to the weights - this means they stay in place and don't roll off when placed on the ground.
The weights are best combined with the weight stand but that's sold separately. However, I was lucky enough to get mine as a bundle from a friend who is a championship body builder and owns a fitness shop, and it was on his advice that I got these. I had done a lot of research on the subject of selectable weights as they ain't cheap and I must say I found the choice perplexing.
On the one hand I liked the look of the Bowflex but heard they could be awkward to use and the Powerblocks could get expensive when you start going up in weight... In the end I decided on a set of Powerblocks so went to him to buy them and he said that, out of all of them in his shop, he would recommend these.
He said, they are heavier, better quality, easier to use and that they would be his recommendation. I must say that so far I am very pleased I took his advice. The look great, are nice to use and have reduced my workout time significantly -- or rather, reduced the amount of time spent screwing and unscrewing collars and changing plates significantly, allowing me to keep up the work rate and concentrate on the task at hand - busting out reps!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent,
This review is from: Bodymax 2 x 32.5kg Selectabell Dumbbells (Misc.)These weights save so much annoyance and time. You just click the wheel to the weight you want, and bingo, it's there. Not messing around with cr*ppy screw-on dumbells. These make workouts far more enjoyable.
I would also like to say that the seller got these weights to me before the estimated delivery date. I was not in, and the courier phoned my mobile and waited 10 minutes for me to come back home and sign for the stuff. Really really pleased with the service this company has given.

4.0 out of 5 stars These do the job,
This review is from: Bodymax 2 x 32.5kg Selectabell Dumbbells (Misc.)I purchased these dumbells for use in the Chalean Extreme programme. They are easy to use and I have had no jiggling problems. They operate smoothly. I suspect I will only use half of the range of weights that this set has but the males in the house could probably use the wider range in time. If I have one gripe it is that they go up by 2.5 kg each time. I could have done with a lesser weight increments. Once I have acheived exhaustion of muscle groups at a certain level I will probably have to settle for fewer reps at the higher range instead and build from there. The other weights on offer seem to suffer from: more expense, more fiddliness, more clanking, less smoothness, and just plain dangerous. I think these weights are a very good choice for fit men but the ideal adjustable dumbells for women have not quite been devised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, worth the cash for a quick, intense, home workout.,
This review is from: Bodymax 2 x 32.5kg Selectabell Dumbbells (Misc.)Excellent design and build quality, no need for the £80 rack they work fine without it. The gears provide a nice positive feel and sound when selecting different weights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bodymax 32.5 kg adjustable dumbbells,
This review is from: Bodymax 2 x 32.5kg Selectabell Dumbbells (Misc.)Fantastic! I read the previous review and bought a set, should have bought these years ago, instead of the large rack with 2-25 kgs, which takes up so much room in my gym. They do not rattle, all the chosen weight variations are evenly balanced either side of the dumbbell. selecting the weights are really easy, fast and unlike bowflex the weights are shorter, so exercises are easier and less cumbersome. They feel like top quality with no looseness or jingling, a must buy, if you want a huge rack worth of weights in one pair.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last!,
This review is from: Bodymax 2 x 32.5kg Selectabell Dumbbells (Misc.)Iv been humming and oring about these beauties for sometime now because of my brain telling me that they are a lot of money.
Im am so glad I hit that order button now. You get some much weight without all the space needed with traditional weights.
Im an experienced gym queen and when Im home in the UK for 3 or 4 weeks I get sick of going the gym and waiting for blurts to finish with weights when they are not even using them.
If you get these, a good pull up bar, bench and maybe a dip station you will have everything you need if you know what your doing.
Good quality and so simple and easy to use or should I say set up lol if they was easy to use then something is wrong with your workout ;)
Brilliant buy and well worth the cost

4.0 out of 5 stars 4* due to plates rattling,
This review is from: Bodymax 2 x 32.5kg Selectabell Dumbbells (Misc.)Agree with most reviews. I've had these for 2 weeks now and i really like them. So much better than spinlock - soooo much better! Its great being able to warm up on light weights, then seconds later being able to ramp up the weight. Then change the weight for a new exercise. I can't use the 32.5kgs yet but I'll get there in a bit!
I was torn between Bowflex, these and the Ultrasport 24kgs. Bowflex were too dear, Ultrasport were out of stock and no timeline for more stock so i settled for these. Simply twist the dial to the weight you want, which start at 5kgs and go up in 2.5kgs increments up to 32.5kg. They feel like regular dumbbells which is good and balance well - at 5kgs it feels a bit weird though. The thing that i find disconcerting is that they weight plates rattle. Apparently I can find a screw in the handle that I can tighten to resolve this but i can't find it at the minute. That is my only reservation - this 5-10mm movement in the plates. Its not enough to make an exercise harder or inconsistent but is noticeable. I didn't buy the stand and just leave these in their little docs on a coffee table in the garage. If the rattling stops this a 5* product. Until then, 4*.

5.0 out of 5 stars warning,
This review is from: Bodymax 2 x 32.5kg Selectabell Dumbbells (Misc.)I just want to warning beginners. When you are lifting dumbbell always make sure that all segments are locked. When I just began one of them felt down. The reason is one segment, which was not locked - it is just sticked to the handle, when I was lifting it. It is not a factory discard. It is my carelessness. I'm sure someone can do the same mistake. But overall these dumbbels are pretty safe, much better and safer than regular adjustable dumbbells.
