5.0 out of 5 stars Callas-fans forgive her, 30 Jan. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: La Traviata (Stefano, Stella) (Audio CD)
Reportedly Callas was furious with Serafin for recording Traviata when contractual complications prevented him casting her as Violetta. The silver lining is a youthful Antonietta Stella (the one who looks like Barbara Stanwyck in the photo) in the who has all the necessary resources, verdian style and characterisation. Partnered by di Stefano in youthful, ardent voice and Gobbi in fine form, this is a fabulous set marred a little by the boxy EMI studio mono but it was a good standard for the 50s.
