The academic version comes with the full visual studio 2008 and sql server 2005 with the full sql 2005 management studio. The difference in usability between vs2008/sql2005 and the express versions is huge.My only quibble is that the excellent hand holding that is intellisense is not available for SQL statements used from within VS. For all the slagging MS get this is a good product and there are no big brother checks on if you are an academic. I work in the NHS and teach medical students so am eligable but was slightly concerned as I did not then have my honorary University contract. However product activation went ahead just like any non academic product.

You will have almost certainly read up on this product before you read a review so you know what it should do. It does what it says on the tin and I have to say its pretty nice to work with.

The only thing to stress is the system requirements - make sure you have 2.2 GHz and a massive hard drive or the whole experience will be painfully slow.

The Academic edition of Visual Basic 2008 is suitable for students. It is a good programming language and you can make any programs you like.
