Perfect Solo Cross-Country Ballads,
By
This review is from: Top Gear - Seriously Cool Driving Music (Audio CD)
I love to drive long distances, touring around countries by car, stopping off in B&Bs, local ranches and generally soaking up the beauty around me, and much of it on my own. But whether you are on your own, or travelling with someone, this is a fabulous collation of songs to complement any long drive. Have had the CD as my companion both in the Mid-West USA and around Scotland, and through sun and rain, made my drive all the more pleasurable.

If, unlike the previous reviewer, everytime you get in the car you do NOT want to drive faster than a speeding bullet and instead like to chill out and have a bit of a sing song behind the wheel, then this is a top choice of CD. No, it doesn't make you want to go 100mph. But that's probably a good thing. As chances are, if you're listening to this, you're probably not driving a Ferrari. It's fun, it's got great songs on it, and it's the kind of CD you will want to sing along to.

This CD is what it says on the tin - seriously cool driving music. Sure, there are the odd slow songs on the CD's, but since it's a compilation album, there has to be something in there for everyone. There is a great picture of The Stig standing there with icicles hanging off various parts of his suit. The car was also a nice touch, with snow covering about 85-90% of the vehicle. The CD track list is quite awesome. Since there isn't one at the time of me writing this review, here is a tracklist which I shall provide for you:CD 1: The Killers - Mr Brightside The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger The Zutons - Valerie KT Tunstall - Suddenly I See The Fray - How To Save A Life Coldplay - Speed Of Sound Oasis - Live Forever Manic Street Preachers - A Design For Life The Feeling - Fill My Little World Kings Of Leon - The Bucket Kaiser Chiefs - Everything Is Average Now Reverend & The Makers - Heavyweight Champion Of The World Kasabian - Club Foot Peter, Bjorn & John feat. Victoria Bergsman - Young Folks Travis - Driftwood Athlete - El Salvador Embrace - Nature's Law Ben's Brother - Let Me Out Cherry Ghost - People Help The People Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out) CD 2: Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain Robert Plant - Big Log Whitesnake - Is This Love Simple Minds - Alive And Kicking Roxy Music - Love Is The Drug Paul McCartney & Wings - Live And Let Die T.Rex - Children Of The Revolution David Bowie - Suffragette City The Dandy Warhols - Bohemian Like You Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town Deep Purple - Burn Billy Idol - Rebel Yell Roy Orbison - I Drove All Night Focus - House Of The King (Saxondale Theme Music) Patti Smith Group - Because The Night George Thorogood & The Destroyers - Bad To The Bone Lynard Skynard - Freebird Overall, everything about the CD is brilliant, the album cover, the tracklist, everything. I would recommend this to people who would like something to drive down the motorway to. 10/10.

Misleading title,
This review is from: Top Gear - Seriously Cool Driving Music (Audio CD)
Let's face it, any playlist containing both Coldplay and Phil Collins cannot be legitimately described as cool at any level.

Obvious and Pointless,
This review is from: Top Gear - Seriously Cool Driving Music (Audio CD)
I feel kind of cheated listening to this shameless Christmas cash in, and it's not even December yet. It starts off with some recent lightweight indy-pop from The Feeling, KT Tunstall et al which was rather unexpected. Although most of the songs are decent, their inclusion is obviously because of chart success rather than being good to drive to.As a genre driving songs are usually deep, fast and powerful, like a sports car engine. This makes the choices in this album really odd, many of them are light and twittery or slow, heartfelt songs which don't really set the mood you want while batting down the motorway. There's a really odd mix of oldies, I've no idea what generation this is aimed at - probably anyone that might buy it. If you would like some driving music that has been carefully considered, try the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Not bad but not great, some good modern stuff and a couple of good oldies.I'm sure there must be better examples of 'Driving' Music out there.

This review is from: Top Gear - Seriously Cool Driving Music (Audio CD)
This CD has an odd mix of tracks and is definately not sub-zero for example Plain White T's - seriously uncool and hardly the type of music to drive to; It almost made me fall sleep and crash! All this CD is is a Christmas money spinner.

It'll 'drive' you up the wall - in a good way!,

I haven't actually heard Top Gear: Seriously Cool Driving Music start-to-finish but one look at the tracklisting - not to mention the front cover with its modern font and picture of the hilarious 'The Stig' stood next to a frozen Lexus (or whatever it is) - tells you that it deserves at least one star on the Amazon ratings system.I don't even drive but I can't imagine a better soundtrack than Top Gear: Seriously Cool Driving Music - windows down on the freeway, the wind in your hair, the speedometer edging towards 4000km/h (or thereabouts, I realise the speed limit varies from country to country) and the rocking sounds of 'Driftwood' by Travis blasting from your speakers. The cover of Top Gear: Seriously Cool Driving Music boasts that the compilation is 'Packed with only the best sub-zero tracks!', a claim which some cynics may dismiss as meaningless - but I can tell you that I've waited far too too long to hear T. Rex, Ben's Brother and Prince all together on one album. I'm also pleased that the compilers saw fit to note that disc 2, track 15 of Top Gear: Seriously Cool Driving Music is 'House of the King (Saxondale Theme Music)' by Focus - Saxondale of course being another BBC TV programme which involves a man driving a car at some point, so it's vital that they point this out. Another track that warrants mention is 'People Help the People' by Cherry Ghost, which I gather was written and performed by Top Gear's three presenters for the purposes of this compilation (the 'band' name Cherry Ghost being a reference to some in-joke or other). I've not heard the song in question but I'm sure it's a corker. |
