4.0 out of 5 stars 'Patchy, But Occasionally Brilliant, Great Value Set'
'Beautiful Voices' is the third in a series of CD/DVD sets from Nuclear Blast celebrating Rock/Metal etc bands with female vocalists. Volume three contains a 70 plus minute DVD with an equally long CD and while a lot of the bands featured on the DVD are also on the CD, most of the time they are performing different tracks. Artists include Nightwish (new version), Epica,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Wailing cats!
Beautiful voices? What a misleading title. Most of these women grate and whine. Sure some of them are pretty, fair enough, but this 'gothic/symphonic metal' fad has been done to death. Beauty does not make up for lack of talent in most cases. Only Leave's Eyes are in the same league as Nightwish. Tarja Nightwish that is. Not the pop-incarnation with Anette

Artists include Nightwish (new version), Epica, Doro, Sirenia, Lacuna Coil, Bif Naked, Xandria and many others. As with a lot of compilations, not all of the tracks will be to your particular taste, but there are some real gems included here and as such 'Beautiful Voices' could be a good move if you are looking for a decent sampler of what 'female fronted rock' has to offer. Particularly good, are the first 5 or six video's on the DVD (things taper off a little after halfway) including an ingenious video from Nightwish where members of the band morph between who they actually are and sexy scantily clad girls! Best video of all however goes to Sirenia where the band perform amongst a palace of ice! Most of the songs on this collection are heavy but melodic (bar a few 'shouty, grunty' thrash outs) and none of the songs are over long which suggests this set is aimed not just at existing fans but with an eye on 'converting a few' to the cause. All in all, a solid 7 out of 10.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This (and the others in the BV series) are good value for money if you're not familiar with half the bands on show. Good choices of songs, most of the vids are great. I'd recommend this to any fans of girl-fronted rock/metal/prog.
