Not nearly as good as expected.
on 19 June 2015
It's not often that I'll go back and write a review for an item purchased six months before but in this case it's the only way to review these boots fairly.
I'm an outdoors person, a keen wildlife photographer, birder and BTO bird ringer. I'm constantly out in the field and have owned numerous pairs of outdoor/performance/trekking boots
These Timberland boots are comfortable, light and have decent grip and reasonable ankle support, which is why I bought them in the first place, after trying them for size in a shop.
However, their performance doesn't match the price and after their first winter, and despite regular cleaning and waterproofing with performance products (both waxes and aerosol water-proofers) the boots have not prevented moisture ingress. I'm not just talking about the mesh panels; the leather also becomes wet and spongy. Furthermore the finish also deteriorates more than I think is acceptable, certainly compared to other boots I've owned.
If you want a pair of 'decent' walking boots for occasional use in generally dry conditions, then these might well suit your needs, but if like me you want something a little more 'heavy duty' for regular usage in wet conditions, then these are NOT the boots for you.
