The secon season of Meerkat Manor is a great series, Unfortunately the meerkat Shakespeare is no longer there, but Mith is also a nice meerkat. I can recommend this series for sure, because you can learn a lot about the way of living of the Whiskers family, but situated as it is a real life soap. The filming is in a great way and it is narrated by Bill Nighy who does it in a great way. Highly recommended

If you like animals and movies about them, this is great entertainment for adults and children. Good stories, great nature and a lot to learn about little creatures.

In case you haven't seen this before: meerkat manor takes footage recorded as part of a long study project in the Kalahari desert into the lives of Meerkats in the area and focuses on a group christened the Whiskers. It follows their everyday lives. Each Meerkaet has been christened with a different name by researchers and each does exhibit very individual characteristics. This plus good narration from Bill Nighy and incidents involving childbirth and fights and illicit liaisons and rivalries between various meerkats and other groups makes for something akin to a soap opera.

And very entertaining viewing, as you do find yourself getting hooked on the characters.

Whilst new viewers should probably start with Meerkat Manor - Series 1 [DVD] each episode here save the last one does begin with a short introduction that gives all the information you need to make it a reasonably good jumping on point.

This season runs for thirteen episodes each of which run for twenty minutes approx and are spread over five discs, and follows a whole year in the life of the Whiskers group. And quite a lot happens to them.

Not entirely suitable for young children to watch on their own as nature can be very harsh and meerkat pups can occasionally come to grief, but this show is both a fascinating look at life in the wild - Meerkats display astonishing amounts of teamwork at times - and a fun watch by virtue of having characters to get interested in and to root for. It's very entertaining television.

The dvd has no subtitles and the only language is english.

This is a rather clumsily put together dvd set because the thirteen episodes are spread over five discs and each gets a box of it's own, unlike series one where it was two to a box, so it is rather unnecessarily large. Episode selection on the dvd menu doesn't allow easy navigation between episodes as to get to the next one you have to go to the bottom of the scene selection screen that comes up for the first one and highlight a small arrow then click on it.

Each disc has a trailer for the third series of the show as an extra, and the first also has Meerkat moments: a few short montages of footage from the show put into selected groupings on selected subjects and set to music. Often with genuinely hilarous consequences. They are worth a look.

The box is made even bigger by a bonus disc: Nigel Marven Meerkat adventure, which sees the zoologist visit the Kalahari and meet researchers and Meerkats there. These are different groups to the Whiskers who don't feature. A more traditional wildlife show this does offer an interestingly different look at the creatures to the series, it illustrates how small they are very well, and there's some stunning photography and beautiful sunsets.

Also a few close ups on snakes which might have some reacting the way Nigel's mum does at the beginning of it. But it is excellent tv and well worth a watch. It also has no subtitles and the only language is English but it does offer chapter selection.

So whilst as a product this could have been slightly better put together it is very good tv and that makes it worth five stars.
