5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best mix CD ever made
Ok, so my title may seem to be overhyping this release, but I genuinely consider this to be a major contender. So what makes this mix stand out from the thousands released over the past few decades? Have to agree with Merlin Beard on this one. I'm a fan of Joris Voorn's Balance 014 and Anthony Pappa's 'Moments' CDs, but the At The Controls series just doesn't live up to the hype.

The mixes are interesting, with a diverse track selection that are intelligently put together. Alas, they are a little repetitve and, dare I say it, boring - they just don't...

Ok, so my title may seem to be overhyping this release, but I genuinely consider this to be a major contender. So what makes this mix stand out from the thousands released over the past few decades? Everything. The tracklist, particularly across disc two, is wildly diverse in genre and style, but works coherently in a way which seems almost impossible. The mixing itself is equally distinct, where it seems to change from floating from track to track, to chopping sharply, to beat matching impeccably, yet even the sharp changes work perfectly. Disc Two is the most consistently high quality mix cd I know of, and somehow weaves dubstep, house, techno, acid, gothic, ambient music and even chamber chanting into a flowing, beautifully unfolding master work. What holds this set together is it's mood. It's so dark, brooding, haunting, yet strangley accessible.

Highlights include 'Blank Images' by The Viewers, which is perfectly conjoined to Balil's remix of Francesco Tristano's 'The Melody' on CD1. On CD2, Rone's 'Bora', floating in off the back of Murcof's murky 'Cosmos 1', along with Burial's haunting remix of Jamie Woon's 'Wayfaring Stranger' provide 'highlights' in what is virtually a 5 star offering every tune.

If there is anyone questioning whether Djing is a skill or visionary practice, or whether electronic music has soul or real mood, or whether it is possible to sit entirely different genres of music in the same whole and it work perfectly, then this is the place to find the answer. Agoria leaves us in no doubt what can be achieved with a true visionary at the controls.

5/5

I don't know the latest name to give to this type of electronic music so I won't try to give it one...simply put this is a demonstration in slick and perfect mixing. The beats are sometimes dark and deep but they always keep the foot tapping. Love it.

Has to be one of Agoria's best mix CD's. Full of tech beats trancey trips and progressive basslines that will keep you entertained from start to finish. It weaves its way through genres with some great vocals thrown in for good measure that keep the listner guessing all the way to very end. Just how a mix CD should be made! Well worth the investment! Great Work Agoria.

The mixes are interesting, with a diverse track selection that are intelligently put together. Alas, they are a little repetitve and, dare I say it, boring - they just don't instill any real excitement and require a little too much effort to get into. Same comments appl to James Holden at the Controls

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but....., 19 Mar 2012

.... maybe not worthy of some of the awe of the other reviewers. This is a solid house/ progressive house mix, but at times gets a little repetitive. Don't get me wrong, I've listened to this a number of times now and get on with it quite well, but it doesn't it doesn't get my juices flowing like the Fabric mix from Amalagamation of Soundz, or The Balance Mixes from SOS or Joris Voorn for example.

All in all though, it's good value. You spend pennies to get a decent 2 CD mix. I'm always on the lookout for interesting new DJ mixes and although this isn't bad, the other reviews led me to believe that this could be amazing and I guess I'm a little disappointed. 3 and a half perhaps?
