Absolutely fantastic even now,i can remember watching it when i was young and it is as good then as it is now.
With this box set you get the old version as well as he new which was good so you can compare the two my vote still goes to the older version well worth the money if your into horror movies as i am.

You definitely get what you paid for here. I am not sure where to begin
this review. The alleged true story for those who don't know, is a family
who move into a big house that a few centuries ago Indians were mis
fortunately slaughtered on... The family in the 28 days they were there
experience frightening things like red eyes peering in through a window,
ghosts, nightmares and blah blah blah1

The original is dated but true to the novel. Watching it again the other
night though it seems more eerie than the remake. Far more convincing.

The remake with Ryan Reynolds was obviously made for entertainment
reasons but is still a good horror fest. Not true to the novel and hardly true
to the real story. It is still decent entertainment though.

Comes with bonus documentaries that include interviews with the Lutz's and others. This is one of my all time favourite scares so I'm thrilled with this edition and the added extra's.

the other reviews say its hammy and cheap but all i can say is
that it and its sequel is very scary and gave me nightmares for weeks. who cares about the special effects remember it was the 70's but it still has the tension and atmospere of a good old haunted house tale. Stands up to repeated viewing time and time again when your in the mood for a good old scary movie.

Fans of this francise will love the orginal, although the special effects maybe dated by todays standards you'll still be in for some shocks along the way... An all time haunted house classic, forget the haunting and the house on haunted hill, this is the house that even in the 80's will make it's 90's counter parts look pail and class less...

After watching the first and second versions back to back, I confirmed again after many , many years of watching them both originally, that the first film is far superior to the second. What the second film lacks is atmospheric tension which is brilliantly executed in the first film. Gone is the use of your own imagination, the slow, tense build up to the unimaginable, being replaced by the rather, obvious special effects and lack of acting throughout, leaving the film to limp along to it's final conclusion. Both films are overall enjoyable none the less, but, for me the first one cuts the mustard. Brilliantly acted by James Brolin and Margot Kidder, the only calamity here is the overacting by the late Rod Steiger as the tormented priest. Watch them both and feel the 'chill' all over again!

Amityville never gets old, and this is a great way to enjoy both films!

Having read the book, I love both films for different reasons. They both cover different aspects of the story, and show different elements of the haunting; with the original focusing moreso on the reaction of the priest and outsiders, and the remake more centred on the family itself. I love how "Jodie" is conveyed in the new film, and the acting by all participants (old and new) is excellent.

If you haven't read the book, I really suggest you do! Compliments the films and you'll enjoy them even more afterwards!

I have received this D.V.D and can give the old VHS version the retirement that it deserves! It served me well, but times have changed, and D,V.D and Blu=ray are the in-thing now!
When it comes to the original Amityville Horror, I have to say that the other remakes are not nearly as good-this film is the best,as it is as near to the book as you can get!I have read the Jay Anson book, and the film matches it in every respect-I can recommend this film to anyone who is interested in the Amityville Horror story!

I was very happy wtih this product, having only seen the re-make before i was looking forward to the original, and i was not dissapointed.
A great horror that is timeless as the very entertaning re-make proves.

The item its self is two dvd cases in a cardbord box not a sleeve style case, which i prefer because i can place the dvds seperatly and if i ever want to sell one i can keep the other.

I recommend this highly to people who like to compare the old and new dvds or just love haunted house horrors.
