4.0 out of 5 stars Competent and Stylish
I bought this monitor as a replacement for an 18" 4:3 aspect DELL monitor that had finally given up the ghost after 3+ years. I was drawn to this unit as it seemed to offer an opportunity to combine a LCD TV with a PC monitor and also because it had HD inputs (Composite and a single HDMI) for my games consoles.

The unit is incredibly stylish - great simple...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great monitor, poor telly.
Bought this as a bedroom TV and it's barely even good enough for that. As a monitor connected to my laptop, the full 1440x900 res is sharp and clear. DivX movies played back look superb. However, the sound quality is really poor - much worse than my laptop speakers! And bizarrely, the image quality from the TV tuner is really quite terrible. For what it's worth...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great specs and picture, But not hat great as a tv., 11 Dec 2008
This review is from: Samsung SM932MW 19" Widescreen TV Monitor - Black (Electronics)
This samsung has great specs and all the 1080p goodness that you need.
When played to its potential its crisp and has a great display. It's stylish and has good speaker sound so there is no need for extra speakers unless you want really decent sound.

The reason for the 3 stars was simple.

The viewing angle, its truly terrible and when advertised to customers as a tv they need to state that it utilises PC monitor backfitting technology!!

My bed is litrally 5cm below this tv in my room and it becomes sort of polarised nearly to the middle. You have to look dead on to find the real picture brighness. This is very annoying for games, say when you are in a dark room.
Another quibble is that the tv input reciever is pretty poor. It could be better quality.

The unit is incredibly stylish - great simple clean lines with a quality piano-black gloss finish which looks super. The stand is small and unobtrusive and offers a tilt mechanism so you can adjust the angle the monitor is at. The back ports are well organised and well labelled and there is also a set of AV inputs on the side of the unit. The nice blue 'glow' around the power button is classic Samsung and looks nice. Another factor behind my choice of this unit was the built in speakers. These are competent enough for general use but if you're a dedicated gamer or intending to use this as your daily TV, you might want to look at alternative sound sources. For me and what I want, it's fine right now.

As a monitor and using the DVI-D input, the picture is stunningly clear, sharp and crisp with good colour reproduction. It is quite bright but alternative 'picture modes' may lessen the initial feelings of harsh brightness on mainly white backgrounds (we use "internet" mode which seems to tone the white down nicely). My pictures look great on it. It's taking me a while to adjust to being in 'widescreen' mode on my PC though - some of my pictures do look a little stretched now.

As a TV, it seems reasonably competent too. I confess that this is my first LCD TV and I'm only running it of an anlogue source (no built in Freeview if that's important to you!) but the picture seems reasonable for an LCD screen. It's quite simple to set up but the instructions (both printed and on the enclosed CD) are evidently translated into English with some great quotes in there! It is capable of displaying HD transmissions with a suitable source and offers AV, SCART, Composite and HDMI inputs for those.

I haven't had oppportunity yet to try it with the games console so can't really comment on that.

Price wise, Amazon seemed pretty well placed on this. Argos were doing this at £199 for a while but PC World were £250 at one point.

One small quibbles - there was no DVI cable in my box. It came with a D-SUB cable and a cable for hooking it up to the audio out on the PC as well as a UK and European power cable. I had a DVI cable anyway so no major complaints but others may be frustrated by this.

Overall, I highly rate this hybrid monitor/TV and would recommend it to others looking for a replacement monitor - it's great to get the extra functionality and may help reduce clutter is some rooms. It's very stylish and would, I'm sure, look great in most situations. The monitor elements are faultless and the TV functionality is, for me, an added extra. I'm looking forward to testing it with the PS3 and 360 for a truly HD gaming experience.

Good product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad TV/monitor, 21 Nov 2008
This review is from: Samsung SM932MW 19" Widescreen TV Monitor - Black (Electronics)
I purchased mine from Dabs as a refurbished unit(£149 plus postage). I agree that the sound could be better so I added a couple of PC external speakers(a couple of old Mercury MS 440's) into the head phone socket these have vastly improved the sound output. I'm using scat via a Samsung DV3 freeview box and also feel the picture could be better,( I've set Freeview box to widescreen 16:9 and likewise for the TV) haven't yet tried the A/F input yet perhaps that might improve.

Have watched films via the PC DVD's recorder (an old PC setup by the TV just to watch DVD film's)they are quite good. as for using it as a PC for general use I prefer my Viewsonic VX 924 monitor which is a 4:3 monitor and has very clear display on my other PC.

i recently purchased this TV/Monitor and i must say i was supprisingly impressed, samsung have managed to make yet another peice of affordable yet highly technical TV, it has both DVI and 15sub vga pc connections, a hdmi, component and scart, has a 5ms response time which is very good for gaming, i have an xbox 360 via hdmi and pc via dvi connected to mine, both look astonishingly crisp, even though the resolution of the screen is only 1440x900, the 19" version of this range has the ability to run 1080p images @ 67.5khz and looks absolutely stunning running this, my only 1 problem i have with this TV is not the lack of freeview, it is due to it being a PC monitor it has a 16:10 aspect ratio rather then a 16:9, this is fine when running your pc at the native screen resolution but anything running through hdmi, component or scart will have a very thin border at the top and bottom of the screen, nothing major but it takes a while to adjust to this, all in all this is a superb screen that i can reccomend to anyone and at the price it is here on sale (i payed £249.99 for mine, not from amazon) it is a bargain not to be missed,

Brought to replace my kids ageing tele, very sleek black design with just one button on the front, easy access to the scart socket and HDMI socket on the rear, putting the stand on was a bit fiddley and require a bit of brute force, but other than that it is a wonderful tele and at a very resonable price, if you are looking for a small sleek well made tele, then look no further, this will be all you need.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice TV, 22 Oct 2008

I purchased this TV / Display via Argos as I needed one that day. I'm quite happy with it and use it connected to a PC, A external Freeview Box , a Xbox360 (via HDMI) and a Freecom Mediaplayer (via HDMI). On the Xbox text can appear a little distorted at first but having adjusted the picture and the angle of the screen, it tilts back on the stand, I've gotten used to it.

The sound is okay but I would recommend either purchasing a better set of speakers or using a set of headphones for anybody who likes a good sound but for my requirements it is more than good enough.

The main down point for me is that it doesn't support VESA wall mounts. For me it's not a huge problem at the moment but it will be for some. Especially in a bedroom or kitchen area where this TV would be perfect not having any sort of wall mount bracket is a major problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as it could have been, 28 Aug 2008
This review is from: Samsung SM932MW 19" Widescreen TV Monitor - Black (Electronics)
I am rating this highly even though the picture quality through the HDMI socket is not as it should be. The looks and ease of use is spot on. The picture brightness varies depending on how high up you are viewing the picture (this is due to the type of LCD screen it uses). It is better to compensate for this by making it brighter than you would normally. It is not that much of an issue since you will be viewing it at a fixed height but making the picture brighter will mean it looks good at any height.

It also remembers your custom setting for each input (and there are many). Using a High Definition source through a digital cable (HDMI) I found the picture quality to be disappointing. The 1080p pictures are not really in that league at all through the HDMI socket and are rather soft. You will be impressed until you play the same source through a PC (VGA cable in my case) and see far more detail. You will still be impressed by the picture through HDMI but it isn't as good as it could be. Similarly, the scart input is not great either. At most distances, this doesn't matter too much.

Another problem which could be just my set, is that the right speaker (near the on button) makes a vibrating noise at high volumes (I isolated the speaker causing it by adjusting the balance). Also, at times the set has crashed and had to be unplugged to reset for the picture to appear. It also had a dead pixel but this is near the right edge of the screen and isn't very noticeable.

I Reccomend!

A bit troublesome with fitting the stand!

TOP TIP: while fitting stand, apply the same amount of pressure for about 20 seconds and you will find it eventaully slides into place!!
