3.0 out of 5 stars "Champ is Here"
After watching this PPV a few days ago, I would have to say that it weren't the best PPV of 2007 and I am going to regard it as the worst Judgement Day of them all, but will still keep in my WWE DVD collection.

After watching this PPV a few days ago, I would have to say that it weren't the best PPV of 2007 and I am going to regard it as the worst Judgement Day of them all, but will still keep in my WWE DVD collection.

WWE Judgement Day 2007 Match Ratings:

1. Ric Flair vs Carlito 3/5

Just like the one on one match they had at WWE Unforgiven 2005, these two put on a great match with Carlito dominating Flair for most of the match, but Flair made Carlito tap out to the figure four leg lock.

2. Bobby Lashley vs Mr McMahon, Shane McMahon & Umaga 1/5

Pretty pointless match that only lasted a matter of seconds. This match got off to a little great start with Lashley doing some of his entertaining power moves on Shane & Umaga.

Lashley was announced as the new ECW Champion but that got changed by the former and still ECW Champion Mr McMahon.

3. CM Punk vs Elijah Burke 4/5

This match was very entertaining from start to finish, plenty of back and forth action from both superstars.

This is a match year candidate for best match of the year for 2007, both Punk & Burke did the ECW fans proud.

4. Shawn Michaels vs Randy Orton 1/5

This could have been a good match if Orton didn't attack Michaels backstage before their scheduled match.

The match still went ahead but Michaels was not 100%.

5. Hardy Boys vs Cade & Murdoch (WWE World Tag Team Championship) 4/5

Nice little tag team match for the WWE World Tag Team Championship, with the usual back and forth tag team action.

6. Edge vs Batista (World Heavyweight Championship) 3/5

Little disappointed that this match only lasted for at least 6-8minutes, but the Rated R Superstar Edge managed to successfully retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

7. Chris Benoit vs MVP (2 out of 3 Falls Match for WWE United States Championship) 2/5

Not a great match for Chris Benoit who didn't seem bothered to wanna retain the WWE United States Championship, but a good match for MVP who became the new WWE United States Champion.

8. John Cena vs Great Khali (WWE Championship) 3/5

Not a long main event but was great to see Cena get his WWE Championship back from The Great Khali, who stole the WWE Championship from Cena on RAW.

This marked the first time that any superstar made The Great Khali tap out and Cena was the man to do the job.

Match Favourite: CM Punk vs Elijah Burke
Worst Match: Bobby Lashley vs Mr McMahon, Shane McMahon & Umaga

Judgement day 2007 came three weeks after backlash so with that in mind, storylines couldnt quite be forged so alot of what happened here was as a result of what happened at backlash and some matches followed a similar flow as backlash, and while backlash 2007 was a very good event i found this to be average and chasing shadows as far as maintaining a consistent quality.
First up,we had ric flair going up against carlito, this match seemed to last an age and was actually very repetitive and that isnt on,i felt like i was stuck in a deju vu mode for the 15 minutes or so and wasnt impressed, the ending was ok but by then i had lost interest,i hate to say that but its true.
A three on one handicap match was up next, the ECW champion, vincent kennedy mcmahon with shane and umaga went up against lashley,a match we had at backlash, but this match was rotten, lasted a minute and wasnt worthy of the hype, the aftermath of the win was good but unacceptable as a whole,it hurt me.
CM punk went toe to toe with elijah burke next and this match seemed to last a week,it went on and on and on until the crowd started to feel a bit sick of it,i was glad of an ending and while both men impressed in share here and there,i thought this was too long.
Shawn michaels went up against randy orton next in a clumsy and jaded match that suffered as hbk was meant to have concussion, and he played on it,och,he oversold it but made a good fist at convicing us,going for sweet chin music and then falling over like a bag of spuds, you could believe and yet not,the match suffered in all of this and in the end thats all that really matters.
The WWE tag team championship was up next, the champs, the hardys going up against lance cade and trevor murdoch, this match was an almost replica of their match at backlash and this isnt a complaint but they could have thought this through a bit perhaps, nonetheless this was again watchable.
The world heavyweight title was up next, edge went up against batista, much was made of this but i didnt view this as a classic at all,the ending was weak enough and while it didnt last long and wasnt overly boring, something was missing, not a classic then.
A two out of three falls match was up next, the united states championship was on the line here, chris benoit defended it against MVP.This wasnt the final pay per view that benoit appeared in before his death,he popped up as a lumberjack at one night stand, but here he was not at the races, looking moody and unwilling he was very poor,MVP gave his all and again impressed but at times it looked like he was up against a truck that wouldnt give anything and was bored with it all, with all that in mind, this wasnt a pleasure to watch,a sad way to say goodbye to benoit in his last proper pay per view match.
The main event was next and the WWE title was at stake, the champ john cena went up against the great khali, and this was a good match,i would agree that khali had his first great match here and these two men shared the stage several more times that year and worked well together, not a world class main event but a good even match with a good ending,as pay per views go this doesnt reign supreme and that hurts,2 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars WWE Judgement Day 2007, 12 Sept. 2007
This review is from: Judgement Day 2007 [DVD] (DVD)
Judgement Day 2007 was a PPV that was dominated by storyline development rather than wrestling, but still managed to become an enjoyable event.
The opening match was a grudge match between Ric Flair and Carlito, and after a sloppy start the match gains momentum and reaches a fine ending. Not as good as their Unforgiven 2005 match, but still a solid opener.
The second match is a re-match from Backlash as Bobby Lashley takes on the McMahons and Umaga in a handicap match. This is what i mean by Judgement Day being an event dominated by storylines rather than wrestling. The match barely lasts a minute, and was designed to keep the story going, nothing more. Still, fine for what it was.
Match 3 is CM Punk vs Elijah Burke. Quite a slow buildup, but if you enjoy old fashioned wrestling storytelling than this is a reasonable match.
The Randy Orton/Shawn Michaels match only happens to re-establish Orton as the legend killer, and give Shawn Michaels an excuse to be off television for a while. Despite being short, it is actually quite entertaining, as the story is well told and Randy Orton is great as the sadistic legend killer.
The Hardys against Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch is match of the night. The only wrestling match on the show that is compelling because of wrestling, this is easily superior to their Backlash match, and the crowd are into the action. Great tag team wrestling.
Batista vs. Edge was a last minute addition to make up for the injury of The Undertaker. Slow, but watchable, this match has a nice ending that makes up for the slow pace.
Chris Benoit has his final PPV match against MVP in a two out of three falls. Their first two PPV matches were easily forgotten, and this is worse. Slow and boring, it is a shame to see Benoit go out this way.
The final match is the WWE championship match between John Cena and The Great Khali. With the help of Cena and a very enthusiastic crowd, Khali has the first good match of his career. Short but very energetic, a great main event.
On the whole this is a very entertaining show. Well worth a look for any WWE fan.
