I'm a big fan of M83 but not so much the power pop end of things so this one is my favourtie album from them. Digital Shades Vol. 1 is stripped back, beautiful and powerful. Lush, warm analog synthesizer pads wash over simple haunting piano reels and the occasional soprano vocal. Strings crescendo into cacophonous distortion then settle back again. It's all very introspective and uplifting. If at least one of these tracks doesn't make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up then you must shave in some odd places!

If you like Boards of Canada then you'll LOVE this. Best listened to on headphones, with your eyes closed, under the blazing sun. My only complaint is that it's a bit short!

The tracks on the album are various pieces of electronic music mainly written with analogue and digital synthesizers. When listening you can imagine going on a journey down long dark roads, woodland paths, over frosty fields and up into the stratosphere!
Listened to as a single piece, this work up there with the best of M83's other back catalogue. It's impossible to pick out stand out tracks on first listen. The album has no "pop singles" as such and is more an experiment in sound manipulation with digital instruments.
The music is better "felt", crank up the bass, lay back and enjoy the ride!!

Nice easy music to relax to. Great sound, excellently produced and a great addition to any music library. Great album.

Bought this because of their music in the film "Oblivion". There are a couple of tracks which are just noise, the rest are OK.
