The Burning has to be one film that makes it in to everyone's Horror collection, plenty of gore and the scene with the raft has got to be one of the best in horror, dodgy effects but that's what makes this a great movie along with a villan who you seem to be rooting for.

My order arrived within the specified time, and more importantly in good condition. As for the film itself,it`s a reminder of the glory days of the slasher flicks of the 80`s,that so incensed Daily Mail readers at the time.Still has some genuine shocks as well.

In 1981 there was a whole slew of teen slasher films, all trying to cash in on the success of friday the 13th,released a year earlier. Most of them being pretty awful, the Burning however stands out from the rest. The story is familiar, kids play a prank on a summer camp caretaker which backfires badly.Years later he returns for revenge.....
The burning is nicely directed by tony maylem, who keeps the jolts coming thick and fast.Helped along by a eerie score by rick wakeman and top notch make up effects from tom savini.Be warned though this film is not for the faint hearted, and some of the death scenes are truly horrific. One of the reasons this film ended up on the video nasties list in 1984.Highly reccomended for slasher fans of the 80's and the present.

The Burning is a slasher flick that still is good, many of the 80s horror/slasher that you thought was good then are not very good today. But i can recomand The Burning still today, it never gets boring even if it's not a killing every second minute.

Director: Tony Maylam

Cast: Brian Matthews as Todd, Leah Ayres as Michelle, Jason Alexander as Dave, Fisher Stevens as Woodstock, Holly Hunter as Sophie and Lou David as Cropsy.

Cropsy (Lou David) was a former caretaker at a summer camp in upstate New York. After a prank gone horribly wrong Cropsy was burned badly. Now he still lurks around the camp seeking revenge by randomly killing teenagers that camp out there preferrably with garden shears.

THE BURNING (aka Cropsy) is another cult favorite slasher from the 80s with the special effects created by Tom Savini, right up there with MANIAC, NEW YORK RIPPER and THE PROWLER.
The special effects are gruesome and great. Gruesome enough it got the film banned and/or heavily censored in several countries including the UK (it was one of the very first video nasties) and unsurprisingly in Germany. While it still remains banned in the latter, it was finally passed uncut with all previous cuts waived in the UK in 2002.
THE BURNING is not as tense as THE PROWLER or MANIAC but still better than any FRIDAY THE 13TH movie out there.
The teenagers in the film are incredibly stupid and unlikeable, the acting horrendous, but it is all made up with some of the most gruesome killings in the genre (the raft massacre being one of the most notorious scenes in slasher history). We don't watch slasher films for Oscar-worthy performances, now do we? And look out for Jason Alexander, Fisher Stevens and Holly Hunter in their film debuts.
Director Tony Maylam delivers a really good slasher with a bit of a drag inbetween killings. This is mainly due to the fact that there are no really interesting characters out there to care for, not because of his directing.
The character of Cropsy is actually a very good villain, with a more or less justifiable cause for killing, the poor guy even gets kicked out by a hooker. I did find myself rooting for him all the way through the movie.
THE BURNING is a really enjoyable slasher film, if you are into this genre you will LOVE this.
There is a far better US Blu-ray out there from Shout! Factory, which is region A locked but has far superior picture and audio quality and restores the original aspect ratio (1.85:1).

Feature running time: 87:20 mins. (uncut)
Rating: Unrated (MPAA) / 18 (BBFC)
Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1 / 4:3
Audio: English 1.0 Mono
Subtitles: None
Extras: Gallery, Trailers, Filmographies
Region: 2 (locked)

Picture quality: D
Audio quality: D
Extras: F+

Not the uncut version, the digital transition is pretty bad as well,it's grainy as heck and kinda blurry.Fans of cropsy should avoid.
