4.0 out of 5 stars Classic BBC production, 27 Sep 2013

This review is from: Henry VI Part Three - BBC Shakespeare Collection [1983] (DVD)
Took a few minutes to get into and some of the fight scenes aren't the best but you can't fault the acting and it helps to understand Richard iii.Have enjoyed watching this production. The DVD arrived in good time and in an excellent condition as promised.

5.0 out of 5 stars An underrated part of Shakespeare's CV..., 20 April 2010

Written just a century after events, Shakespeare's Henry VI plays are a bit snubbed but I really like these wonderful BBC versions. Artistic licence with facts aside, the rumbustious scripts & ugly violence bring home the poisonous resentments that stoked the Wars of the Roses. To really get Richard III, make sure you watch these three first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent final part of the trilogy, 7 Sep 2012

This final part of Shakespeare's trilogy covering the life of Henry VI and the War of the Roses is probably the best of the three, dark and gritty and very real. I found myself so engrossed in the characters and action that I was hardly aware of the very basic, 'stagy' set that has been used through-out the three plays.

All the parts are well played; a special mention should probably go to Mark Wing-Davey as Warwick - he has grown with the role from a rather foppish courtier to a convincing warrior and `king-maker'. Julia Foster continues to be excellent as Queen Margaret, and Ron Cook is shaping up as an entertaining Richard III, part comical, part menacing.

Of course, like the other two parts it is very long - we watched in instalments - and it can be hard to follow if you are not familiar with the history, however I found it exciting, enjoyable and good drama.
