A bog standard internet security suite that so far shows few chinks in its armoury of defences. What I will say, however, is that it slows down the PC it is used on far more than the old version of Norton that it replaced. Maybe this is down to the machine it is on and its fairly low-spec (it is only 3 years old), but its performance has deteriorated considerably since its installation.

I'm alway's a little worried when installing anything on my computer that says it will protect it. This is usually because as with most products I've used in the past, the software decides to stop connecting to the internet and blocks other programs the computer uses.

However I was very pleased to find that the McAfee Internet Security Suite 2008 did not cause any of these issues. It was very easy to install, there was only a few screens that required my attention, the rest was done automatically.

The control centre is very well laid out, allowing you to easily click into the area you require. The parental control area is very easy to use and will be of benefit to most parents who have limited computer knowledge as everything is explained on screen.

I'm using Microsoft Vista and there was no software conflicts at any point so Vista users can be assured that this is fully operational on their system.

In all a very well put together program taking the fuss out of internet security and presenting an easy to use menu system for the novice user.

If only for the pleasure of dumping Norton, which rendered my computer virutally unusable. Installed without fuss and just gets on with it. So far...

I have to say I'm impressed with Mcafee 2008. Much more stable then many of the other versions and uses less memory then it's other versions.

I'm a big fan of AVG, ZoneAlarm and Kaspersky, so when I was asked to give this a go, I was very reluctant: you don't know what you're getting into, or if it's going to really protect you from viruses. After all, 12 years ago when I had McAfee on my PC: I was hit with a virus. It wasn't very easy to remove, so I had to reinstall Windows 3.11.

Anyway - this isn't a bad suite, you get some decent tools here, spyware protection, anti-virus and even a backup system, this is good value for money, especially when you think you can backup 3 PCs, so that's your desktop, laptop and kids machine.

It also has encryption, so if you want to save those accounts safely - then you can use it. It's a very handy feature you don't see in packages like this from Norton or any other for that matter. Usually it's the old PGP route.

This will install on Windows 2000, XP SP1+ and Vista, which is very good if you have an older machine and don't want to go through upgrading to a new operating system to stay safe (I really can't blame people for staying with Windows 2000, it's stable, and probably MS' best OS so far).

The strange thing about this CD is it's just a downstaller really, you do have the software on there, but you download the core onto the system, then depending on which products you have, you will then have those downloaded, it's very modulated, which is quite handy.

You'll be glad to know the interface is pretty clear and easy to use, though it did take a bit of fishing around to find more advanced stuff. The nice thing is it feels like one big package, you don't get that feeling at all with AVG and Zonealarm, feels like you're buying your bread in the bakers then the meat at the butcher, easier to go to the supermarket.

I can't really comment on the efficiency, I don't have a virus - which is a very good thing, but I'm sure as time progresses I won't be sorry I used this package. The firewall seems very responsive and has stopped people trying to ping.

Not a bad package, but I think there's better individual products on the market and even freeware.

This suite does pretty much what you would expect it to, it's a Virus scanner, firewall and spamkiller; all work well as far as I am aware and are unobtrusive. Installation was easy, ir paused while it requested that I remove AVG virus scanner before continuing installation and then resumed without problems. The only issue I encountered was during the registration where I took five attempts to create a password in the format it required (8-32 characters, no non-alphanumerics but including at least one number) only to be told that the login I was using already existed. Well I couldn't remember having logged on to McAfee before so I requested my password and lo an behold the password it returned didn't comply with the format it was previously requesting (Grrr!). This isn't isolated to McAfee of course but seems to be a general issue with online sites generally.
Anyway, in addition to the stuff listed above it has a site adviser which is useful, and which appears to work - I visited one of the many known dodgy sites to test it - and it has a parental control which is simple to set up and which includes has a very useful Internet time limit function.

McAfee is a big-brand internet security suite, and their 2008 release shows why it's such a popular choice with personal and business users alike. It's really simple to install (and if an older edition is already installed it will uninstall any relevant components for you beforehand) and very clear to understand once it's up and running. The 'control panel' is simple to use and gives at-a-glance overview of the security status of your computer.

I use the internet a lot, and have found that the 'Site Advisor' element of this 2008 software is incredibly useful. It's alarming to think that, prior to this, I never considered the validity or safety of a website and its downloads and associate sites. Now, as long as there's a green 'tick' next to the site on the Google search page, I'm happy to visit!

All in all, a brilliant product that gives great peace of mind whilst surfing the rocky waves of the world wide web. No complaints at all!

I have been trying out this software, and like most of the anti virus programmes out there, it provides all the necessary things you would come to expect for protecting your computer.

Once installed the program runs silently in the background, and automatically protects you against virus threats and you can program it up automatically updates with latest security threats provided you are connected to the internet.

Its main key features are

Firewall
Antivirus and spy ware
Parental control

It also is very user friendly, and it is easy to navigate the different menus, and the installation process is very easy to follow. It provides your computer with real time updates via the internet, so you can keep your virus definitions up to date, and also included the option to register with McAfee for updates regarding products and new threats.

I have installed McAfee without a hitch on my desktop
running windows xp, with 3gb ram.
I was using AVG (free version) and PC guard, and I had
to uninstall AVG to continue with this installation.

I also use Adobe Photoshop and have not, as yet noticed
any slow down.

I have used McAfee Internet security on my laptop for over
two years (got it free for three years,) without any problems
until recently, when things got rather slow, and I am not
sure whether this is being caused by McAfee or not.

I find the included site advisor very useful when making purchases or
registering with online companies that I am unfamiliar with.

For now I am very pleased with this product running on my
desktop, but if it did start running clunky like my laptop
then I would consider uninstalling it.
