Otis Redding is one of the greatest singers, not just of Soul, but any musical genre, of all time. This is a superb introduction to his work for anyone who doesn't already know it and would be fantastic value even at five time the price. All of the tracks are great, but to me the standouts are "I Can't Turn You Loose", "Hard To Handle", "Cigarettes & Coffee" and the extraordinary "Try A Little Tenderness" with has one of the best musical arrangements ever recorded. Every album collection should include some Otis Redding and this is a great place to start.

Otis Redding (1941-1967) was tragically killed in a plane crash, and shortly afterwards the opening track of this CD: `Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay' became a no. 1 record in America. During his short musical career as soul singer and song writer he won many awards including a Grammy and entry to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and in Britain was voted top vocalist for 1967 by Melody Maker. For a CD titled: `Platinum Collection' from the `King of Soul' it may be expected to have more than 16 tracks. For some reason it includes numbers released after his death as: `Hard To Handle'. However it contains `Try A Little Tenderness' which was to become Otis Redding's signature song - and it is great 5-star value. Otis Redding is possibly better remembered for his albums rather than hit singles and this no doubt made for difficulties in selecting for a `Platinum Collection'.

However the CD demonstrates fully the unique voice of Otis Redding with elements of timbre and emotion that can be both raucous and melodic, and sometimes powerful but sometimes spare, and it includes popular brassy arrangements. The wide range can be confirmed by comparing `Shake' as a form of rock & roll with the tempo of `Mr Pitiful'. The ballad element is also well catered for in the `Platinum Collection' with my favourites including `These Arms Of Mine', `Pain In My Heart' and `A Change Is Gonna Come'. There are others and all verify Otis Redding as a major influence on soul music and rhythm & blues. I would have liked his cover of the Rolling Stones: `I Can't Get No Satisfaction' to be included - but as stated, whatever the criticism on selection and my overall award as 4-star - this CD is 5-star value.

I can't believe how cheap this download is, Otis is still the true king.

Shame no one has had such a deep rich emotive voice since. Otis was to music what Dr Martin Luther King was to valour and conscience.

Please buy and enjoy.

Fabulous album by Otis........bought this following a wonderful tour of West Coast America. At final destination San Francisco,Sarcussio bay - was told by the American guide that this was the bay where Otis Redding wrote the song Sitting on the Dock of the Bay, This brought back memories of this song in the 1970's when I played this and had very happy memories of those times. Hence the reason bought it now on Amazon. Beautiful songs, beautiful memories, very good sound quality, rich velvet tone of Otis.....what more could you ask for!

Had all of these tracks in various forms, so when this came along I snapped it up - as it most certainly - a must for all. Timeless classics.
