5.0 out of 5 stars Sir Richard Bishop's Magnum Opus so far, 26 May 2011

This review is from: Polytheistic Fragments (Audio CD)
On this instrumental solo record, Sir Richard Bishop moves in as many directions as there are tracks on the album. Each composition is comprehensive and meaningful but with a completely different approach from the tune it succeeds or precedes. There are bright acoustic guitar pieces with Spanish, Middle Eastern or American Primitivism touches, one and a half swinging Django-esque tune, hypnotic electric guitar murmerings and a long and slow duel between a piano and a resonating guitar. These 45 kaleidoscopic minutes offer an intriguing insight in the compositional mind & moods of this underappreciated guitar hero. Fans of Jim O'Rourke, Six Organs of Admittance, Robbie Basho or (late) John Fahey really shouldn't miss out on this one. No one should, for that matter!
