One book which has made a big impact on both me and a number of clients over the summer has been C.J. Hayden's "Get Clients Now!". It won't win any awards for the subtlety of its title, but it does tell you what the book is about. There are a number of things that make Get Clients Now! Stand out from many other marketing books.
First of all it is aimed at people selling a service. So many marketing books are aimed at people selling the enormous variety of widgets that there are - physical things that you can pick up with your hands, turn around and look at, see what you're getting for your money. Marketing services is a different ball game.
Secondly, Get Clients Now offers a simple breakdown of the marketing process along with a quick diagnostic to help you identify what are the most effective marketing activities for you to use.
Thirdly, the enormous numbers of ideas she offers for marketing activities are not country specific (eg lots of U.S. based organisations that are of no use to anybody in Europe!).
Fourthly, she offers a simple step-by-step program that anybody can follow. If you don't, it's certainly not because it's not clear what to do next.
I've certainly found it to be useful, so have a number of my clients. If you're involved in a service business then you'll find a good approach that works in here - and if you know someone who works in or runs a service business, make sure they know about it too!

This book does what it says. A 28 day marketing program designed for new and established consultants to get clients.

The first half is about defining your strategies and action plans for gaining new clients, and the second half gives you a day by day methodology for implementing them. What is really useful is that it doesn't work on a 'one size fits all' basis. It encourages you first to work out at what stage you get 'stuck' in terms of achieving new business. Is it at the filling the pipeline stage, following up, getting appointments or closing the stages? It then provides a series of tools to get through that particular hurdle, recognising that not everyone is comfortable at doing the same things. For instance, if you're comfortable cold calling and networking, then it helps you defines a strategy to build on those strengths. If you hate, as I do, cold calling but are happy standing up making presentations and writing for the media, it helps you define an action plan to gain visibility and credibility that way. And along the way, it provides case histories and helpful examples to help you along.

The only downside is that even for me, who has spent many years working in the US, it's a little over the top on US motivational phrasing! Having said that, the strategies and principles are just as relevant for the UK and other countries and well worth the investment.

C.J. Hayden provides an efficient, user-friendly, step-by-step program that anyone can customize and follow. It leaves postulating and theorizing to those who want to simply talk about self-promotion and marketing, and pragmatically zeros in on creating the action plan needed to materialize success. I know, because I tried the program to increase my own client base and it worked. I also introduced the program to a number of my small business clients, and we all want to thank C.J. for this significant contribution to courageous entrepreneurs everywhere!

"Get Clients Now!" is a sure fire program to ensuring your marketing success. C.J. Hayden is a marketing genius and now we have access to her secret recipes in this book. She takes the mystery out of building a successful business. This book is a step by step "do it yourself" manual for the new business owner; and the perfect "brush up" for seasoned business owners. If you are stuck in a anyway around getting and keeping business, this book is one of the best investments you will ever make.

In a very readable style CJ Hayden presents a well structured method for building up your marketing. The book is aimed at the self employed and small businesses and Ms Hayden shows a good understanding of the difficulties we face in marketing ourselves. This is a workbook with sheets to fill in and tasks to do, and it is well worth the effort. Stick at it and you will improve your market profile, the leads you generate, and the number of presentations you get. There are no magic pills here. The author guides you through what you need to do, but ultimately you need to make those calls !. This is the best small business marketing plan I have seen. There are no secrets to marketing a small business. It comes down to legwork and "Get Clients Now" provides a very good structure to guide your efforts.

Fantastic book! I recently became self employed and have to build up a customer base. This book is written in plain English, very exciting and helpful. Not too much American 'spin' and straight to the point. Highly recommended, money well spent!

This book is really one of THE marketing must-read books for coaches, consultants and any other self-employed professional who don't know (or are afraid to!) to market themselves. It gives you a practical structure to follow with hundreds of ideas to pick from.

When you are selling "you" rather than a product, it can be hard to put yourself on that supermarket shelf. I know in my first few months, I couldn't help take "no" personally and it was tough trying to work out what my USP was - what made me different from all the other coaches out there.

If you like to work from a simple plan that gives you only one or two activities to do every day (rather than a long to-do-list that never seems to end!) then this perfect. You are asked to focus on what you enjoy and what you are good at. No cold-calling necessary!

Wondering where on earth your next client is coming from? Then buy this book now, put the work in to follow your chosen plan and it will take less than the promised 28 days to see results.

From the very begining this book offers you not only a simple but effective program to attract business but also generates in you the energy and the creativity to get on with. I've seen results immediatly - energy, planning, ideas, results. Thanks a lot, my business boosted and I'm at the begining of the 28 days program.

As someone just setting up my coaching business and never having run a business before, you can imagine the title caught my eye! This is a book that does exactly what it says on the tin. If you're someone who works well with structure and action plans, this is a definite toolkit for you. The best bit.....it's not a case of you must do this, then do that..it's written as a recipe book and you are always in complete control of which recipes you choose to cook and which ingredients you use. I'm in the very early stages of my first 28 day program and I know this will be a book I dip in and out of as I look to incorporate different recipes into my working kitchen

This is a very useful book if you want to follow through a marketing programme and is flexible enough to be used at a number of stages in the marketing cycle. For example, if like me, you are just starting out and don't have many contacts then 'filling the pipeline' is where you start if you are further on in business and still not getting the clients maybe it is the follow up stage that you need to concentrate on. If anyone has gone through the process and seen an increase in business then I'd love to hear about it.
