5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value for Money!
Ordered this as I wanted an LCD TV for the kitchen. Delivered within two days - great! Picture quality is excellent. NICAM Sound is good for a small TV - and there's also an audio socket to connect external speakers. If you want a good price LCD TV for kitchen/bedroom - THIS IS IDEAL!

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Picture, BUT.......
I bought one of these for use with an Xbox 360, and limited tv use.

Having no freeview was not a problem to me as I have plenty of freeview boxes lying aroung that are easy to hook up into the scart connection on the back of the tv.

I had read mixed reviews about the sound on this set, and it's not great to say the least, but it's passable for an...

I was recently in the market to upgrade from an old CRT monitor, and was intially going to buy a bog-standard LCD 4:3 screen for around £100. However, I was lucky enough to spot this LG monitor, which is pretty much a bargain in my book.

Featuring VGA, DVI, TV RGB, Aerial, and even a Component connection means this has everything short of a HDMI port (which I can't make use of anyway). Of course, the DVI and Component functionality means it is HD ready and widescreen, which was one of the deciding factors for me since it meant I could finally play my Xbox 360 games in glorious high-definition. Coming with a remote control is also a big bonus too if you want to replace a television with it as I did.

The only bad point I can think of with this monitor is that the in-built speakers produce low-quality and tinny sound, but this is to be expected with most flat-screen speakers. As long as you have seperate speakers for you PC and TV connections this isn't a factor anyway of course. The package even provides you with an audio cable which allows you to route sound from TV connections through your audio-in on your PC, effectively allowing you to route all sounds through your undoubtedly higher quality PC speakers.

All these features and no major negative factors combine to make this a pretty sweet deal. If you're looking for more than just a run-of-the-mill screen for your PC, this one is definitley worth paying the additional £60-70 over the basic LCD screens.

I bought this monitor because I needed a computer monitor with a larger resolution than I had with the ability to play my Wii on it.
I wasn't disappointed. I plugged in my computer via DVI-D and immidiately saw the improvement over my old monitor. 1440 by 900! Thank you very much. Also, the built-in TV tuner works great. It comes with a comprohensive set of rear connectors for anything you'd want to plug in; VGA (15-pin), DVI-D, Component, RCA, S-Video, SCART, and of course RF (tuner).
Also, the VESA 100 holes in the back panel make it mountable just about anywhere, with the right stand of course. I'm using the headphone port to plug the TV into my computer speakers which are far higher quality than the built-in 3 watt stereo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, a little room for improvement., 7 Mar 2008
This review is from: LG M198WA - 19" Widescreen TV - Black (Electronics)
Really impressed with the telly, great picture spot on as a monitor also. As others have mentioned, the speakers arn't much good, they are ok for TV soap and pc 'noises' but no good for music or movies. However, who ever expected to get great sound from tv speakers, i hooked mine straight into my amp, and now the sound is great. The output for sound is only a 3.5mm headphone jack so you will need adaptor for this.
The TV has a good range of inputs, but only one scart, so no freeview box and DVD player on scart, unless your DVD or Freeview box has Component and/or Composite outputs (this TV has both! on top of RGB and DVI). Or just run DVD's through your PC.
I Suppose really it would have been nice to buy Integrated DTV, but i know of people who have, and they seem much less reliable (freezing etc.) than my Set Top Box, plus the STB has a better channel guide and menu. On this subject the remote brings up an input menu you you then select the input you want, which you cannot re-name yourself, and a button to go straight to the inbuilt Analogue TV tuner, which as ATV goes out over the next few years will become obsolete. I would rather get rid of all the number buttons (i dont need to change the channel if im using a STB) and replace with 'quick' buttons straight to all the inputs.

All in all, this TV/Monitor is great value for money (we now have 2 in the house and would not hesitate to buy more when needed) There are the niggles i explained as best i can, but lets remember this is a 19" widescreen at a great price - which i have still not seen beaten anywhwere else and as both TV and Monitor it does a great job.
Well Impressed.

Hope this helps you choose!

I was intending to just get a new TV as my old TV/Video player was getting very outdated. Then I found this one that meant I can plug my computer into it too and I was thrilled. The picture is great on both TV and computer. Its wide screen which is great and looks really nice too.
Its well packed but not over packaged so less to throw away. The base swivels a long way around and is sturdy.

After reading countless reviews of people saying the sound is crap is was pleasantly surprised to find it actually very good.

All in all a very good quality, high end TV/monitor for a very good price.
since mine arrived yesterday my sisters boyfriend intends to get one too.

Firstly i want to thank Amazon for sending this item out to me within just a few days(my 1st order with amazon, and im very very impressed!)

I was looking for a chap HD LCD for my son to use with his Xbox 360 and i was lucky enough to find this set at a baragin pice!(better than Play.com's price!)

You will not find a better TV for the price! Just over £150 is an absolute bargain! take a look in Argos and Currys etc you will not find a 19" Hd LCD TV for a better price! and if you did it would most likley be a Bush, Polaroid or some other cheap make! However The reason im giving this TV 4 starts is because the sound is very poor indeed, BUT can be solved with a set of speakers, and the only other reason is because it doesn't have a HDMI port BUT there is a component which means you can plug up an Xbox 360 onto this set and play in wonderfull HD!!

The resolution on this TV is 1440x900 which i think you will find is actually better than needed for HD, which means the picture will/does look very very impressive. Just take a look at the contrast ratio on this set, its 3000:1 which compared to cheaper sets i.e bush which have something like 400:1 makes the picture look even better due to more deeper blacks and much brighter whites which is what HD is all about!

My son uses this TV for his Xbox 360 and as a PC monitor! wich makes this TV even better value! LG even give you the requirred lead to use this with your PC. One thing i haven't tried with this TV is the actual TV signal, i can not get a proper tuned picture from were i live so i can not comment on that, but if you are looking for a cheap, quality small HD LCD look No further. LG give you a 3 year guarantee with this set which is great if anything was to happen, giving you a peace of mind.

I'll now come to the styling and looks of this TV. Its a very slim and stylish set, and the black colour really maes it look that much better! Black is the colour to get these days, for electrical items, looks very nice!

Overall i am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this set. One thing i forgot to mention is that for the people who are wondering if this set supports 60Hz, it does support this, which means its ok for Xbox 360 games which require 60Hz to Play, so you are covered with that, just thought i'd mention that.

I bought this from the highstreet for the same price as amazon to replace a Wharfedale L19T11W-A bought a few weeks earlier which developed speaker hiss and was rubbish compared to this in terms of picture quality. I'm using it as a bedroom tv with a digibox and I'm very happy with it. The picture quality is excellent, clean with good contrast. Skin tones look really natural. The speakers aren't good but it is only a monitor, I'll be hooking it up to seperate speakers soon but I think it's a real bargin. I really like the swivelling base which allows easy access to cables at the back.

I wanted a cheap little telly for the bedroom, wasn't too bothered with the the look. I was so suprised, the telly looks very stylish and it is a lovely clear picture. It took me about 5 minutes to do the basic set up and get running. There is no instruction manual but all the information is on a cd. Minor thing, sound is a bit tinny. Overall very pleased with the whole thing, worth every penny in my books.

First of all Kudos to amazon for such prompt delivery. Now to the item, the tv/monitor is really an intuitive product its not as expensive as the LCD tv's out there but serves the purpose well at a fraction of the cost. Its HD ready as well which is really nice. I use it mostly to play games on my 360 and watch movies. LG are also really thoughtful and have supplied almost every cable required to connect it to various other peripherals like DVD players and laptops or desktops. It looks really good as well its shiny black and rather sleek. The HD capabilities of the TV are really good, I watched transformers and 300 on HD DVD on the Tv and till recently I didnt know what the whole HD fuss was all about but man o man is it slick!!! the whole experience is awsome. Unfortunately like all good things it has flaws, the documentation is so strange it doesnt say anything about the TV and its also in italian, but they send a CD with it so thats ok. Also some games like project gotham dont really look good on this tv as compared to others. That said its a perfect little companion to your bedroom or kitchen and the cost it comes at, its one decision you wont regret.
