5.0 out of 5 stars A classic, that still holds up in 2012
The games is awesome, if you are looking for a cheap game to fill the time untill the next big title, or you want to get some band of brothers, saving private ryan type game, then i would definitely advise you buy COD3!!! Despite its age this game still has a fairly decent population in multiplayer and i must say i prefer playing this than some of the later COD titles...

3.0 out of 5 stars COD - the early years
I played this game on PS2 a few years back. I only bought this because I want to play all COD games on the 360.

You really notice the improvement in the graphics otherwise it is pretty much the same game. A few extra scenes and of course a multiplayer.

As a shooter it is quite good. Problem is that there are a lot of better titles available now...

The games is awesome, if you are looking for a cheap game to fill the time untill the next big title, or you want to get some band of brothers, saving private ryan type game, then i would definitely advise you buy COD3!!! Despite its age this game still has a fairly decent population in multiplayer and i must say i prefer playing this than some of the later COD titles. The campaign is a classic, its like playing an old war movie, some of the cut scenes get repetitive if your playing the campaign more than once, but i have played it several times to the end, and each time i have enjoyed it. A lot of people have complained about glitches, but i have never encountered any in the campaign, and people intentionally glitching in mulyiplayer to gain an advantage just make themselves easy targets. To sum it up, this game is a classic, it can be enjoyed by all ages, but id say is better for the mature player. Give it a go!

P.S: dont get ripped of paying to much for this game, you can still play online with a pre-owned game. Many place hike up the prices because its a COD title.

2.0 out of 5 stars CoD 3 review, 24 Oct 2011
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Call of Duty 3- Classics (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
You know, I played every CoD in the main series before this, from the original to Black Ops, and they're all pretty good; Infinity Ward's entries are the real stars but Treyarch's entries, BlOps and World at War, were both enjoyable. So when I heard that this instalment sucked I thought, how can that be? So I thought what the heck, let's give it a go. Man do I regret that now. This is not worth your time, forget price, it's just not worth the eight or so hours it'll take you to complete on normal difficulty to warrant a second glance.

There's no short way to write the cons in full English, I've restarted this review three times already, so I'm just going to list them.

* The story concerns four factions, the Americans, Britt's (+ the French resistance), Polish and the Canadians, boxing in the retreating German forces in mainland Europe. Whilst linking campaigns together seems like a good idea it results in levels feeling very similar and lacking the unique tones and style of their associated nation's.

* The story is told through unskippable cut-scenes (an annoyance I never thought I would get too worked up over) and NPC dialogue, though you may miss this altogether as it is often obscured by the fighting. It also uses several stereotypes and often feels a bit silly considering how serious the subject matter is.

* With the exception of the American campaign, the other nations only get two or three levels each so feel out of place when you've been focusing on one squad's exploits and are now riding in a Polish tank.

* Levels are extremely linear, full of invisible walls and making you just follow stars on you mini-map half the time. The levels also feel repetitive a lot of the time. It does occasionally give you the choice between routes but unlike this mechanic in Gears of War, each route is essentially the same. There are some good sections where you can hit objectives in any order, though they are all very obviously labelled, in case your attention span is so short you forget your name.

* Additional mechanics all feel unnecessary. The tank handles horribly and the car feels pointless, just giving an excuse to have larger less linear levels. The binoculars take ages to get out and simply paint stationary targets for the most part, the grenade throw back system is over-complicated, the bomb arming mechanic is tedious and over-used and the `wrestling a Nazi over a gun' by alternately tapping triggers requires no skill and artificially lengthens levels. What's more annoying is that other CoD games have used similar mechanics to these and done so more successfully. Then there's the way you use AA guns and mortars. Okay maybe I'm a bit thick and it isn't that hard but, rotating one thumb stick for direction and the other for the pitch isn't fun.

* Auto-aim has removed the need to aim by reducing the mechanic to popping in and out of iron sights. Oh and even then the bullets don't always fly straight, which leads onto the worst issue.

* It's horribly buggy. Forget men floating in the air, roofs disappearing, lag between lines of dialogue and even me shooting an enemy catapulting him 30 feet vertically; at one point the map told me to go somewhere I couldn't physically reach. I was actually at the end of the level and it wanted me to leave, and cross an invisible wall. GAHHHH!

You know what, there were some good bits, some levels were fun, various objectives, different settings and good progression, but there just wasn't enough of it. And what there was can't compete with either CoD 1 or 2. If you're still reading this I just have to stress, don't buy it, it's not worth it, buy another CoD, any of the main series. If you want WW2 may I suggest CoD 2? It's bloody great.

The Final Word: No.

You really notice the improvement in the graphics otherwise it is pretty much the same game. A few extra scenes and of course a multiplayer.

As a shooter it is quite good. Problem is that there are a lot of better titles available now. Set in Normandy you play two levels each of different nations, canadians, british, french and american. Most of the game is street fighting with a few in the trenches. The bosses come in the form of stand-offs against swarms of germans. It is entertaining enough if not a bit short. Checkpoints are sensibly spaced and auto save. Controls are typical of COD games.

The only complaints I have are that your AI buddies get in the way a lot and you can get stuck in the scenery and can't move.

Worth a blast though.

Good game. Very authentic and creates a realistic experience on the harsh conditions men and women had to endure in ww2.
