This is sparklingly terrific "dub jazz", for want of a better descriptor; not unlike Panthalassa, the Bill Laswell remixes of Miles Davis' eclectic, electric 1969-74 period. Bits of Americana creep through in the guitar, textures are rich and rewarding, especially through headphones. A production rather than a performance, I suppose. Thoroughly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great progression from Unspeakable, 22 Nov 2010
This review is from: Floratone (Audio CD)
If you like Unspeakable you will love this as it develops from that disc in a great vibe. If you do not have Unspeakable and have not heard Floratone but are looking for something a bit mellow that is not is not smooth jazz, that is abstract whilst not being too random then this might just fit the bill. It uses loops, grooves and dubs with great playing to create a great feel that is both engaging and casual depending on the listener. Never bland, never raw it works really well, I play it a lot when people are around who are not into jazz at all and it usually raises interest.

This album is not easily pigeon holed into any particular genre. It could be described as ambient music, even easy listening, but also jazz. Not the sort of jazz that is improvised though. This is a highly polished production that deserves hi-fi, not a rough edge to be found. Get this CD cued up, headphones on in your favourite chair and listen carefully, you will not be disappointed!
