5.0 out of 5 stars the levs finest
the levs dared to tread new ground with this album and widen their sound. this drew cries of dismay and shouts of "sell out" from fans who should have known better. however, this record boasts some of their finest work starting with the stomping "dog train", the perfect subversive pop single "beautiful day", the wistful "far away"(which opened the 1997 live shows),simons...

3.0 out of 5 stars Patchy but still good
This album marked the start of something of a decline for the Levs. There are still some great songs however, such as the classic 'Beautiful Day' single and two excellent Simon friend songs 'Elation' and 'Survivors'.
However the album marks a move away from socio-political concerns in favour of an attempt to sound more commercial. This attitude is exemplified by the...

the levs dared to tread new ground with this album and widen their sound. this drew cries of dismay and shouts of "sell out" from fans who should have known better. however, this record boasts some of their finest work starting with the stomping "dog train", the perfect subversive pop single "beautiful day", the wistful "far away"(which opened the 1997 live shows),simons "elation" all eerie violin & sound effects backing an almost traditional folk song which is quite beautiful and for me the highlight of the album. "captains courageous" kicks the proceedings up a gear with mark singing yet another pop levs classic.the original album closer "too real" is perhaps the most radical departure from the norm with the levs attemping their most ambitious production yet.mark sings against a swirling dubby beat to realise one of their finest achievements. a hit in the clubs at the time, this should have been a massive single. for me one of the gems on this expanded edition is the inclusion of simon`s "bar room jury" which was only available as a "b"side. this is one of his strongest songs and is a classic levellers track.quite why it didn`t make it onto the original album has always been a mystery to me.the whole album is excellent, the production is superb, there is more to discover here than on any other levs album and in my opinion is their best work. buy and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, 24 July 2012
This review is from: Mouth To Mouth (Remastered) (Audio CD)
Excellent collection of songs - up to the Levellers usual high standard and incliuding a few songs that have become regulars when they play live.

As always with Levellers good value for money, lots of songs and good quality - more their folky than their rock/punk side so bear this in mind if considering buying. Some excellent tracks, none bad.
I would certainly recommend this album.

3.0 out of 5 stars Patchy but still good, 16 July 2007
This review is from: Mouth To Mouth (Remastered) (Audio CD)
This album marked the start of something of a decline for the Levs. There are still some great songs however, such as the classic 'Beautiful Day' single and two excellent Simon friend songs 'Elation' and 'Survivors'.
However the album marks a move away from socio-political concerns in favour of an attempt to sound more commercial. This attitude is exemplified by the rather insipid 'Celebrate' and a generally over-polished sound. Nevertheless the cover of Pentangle's 'Rain & Snow' and 'Chemically Free' arn't bad and nothing on this album is as awful as much of its lamentable follow up 'Hello Pig'.
