Bought this as a gift for my nephew.
VERY solid construction, looks like it will stand up to considerable abuse. Everything moves nicely with the cabin spinning freely and the arm bit stiff enough that it stays where you leave it (can't comment on the longevity of this stiffness,I'm sure it would loosen eventually). It doesn't topple or become unstable at any angle.
Painted nice and simply and not with paint that will chip (maybe better described as stained than painted)
I'd be a bit concerned about the elastic that controls the bucket as mentioned by the other reviewer though it doesn't look too flimsy to me. Perhaps they've upgraded it. The rubber tracks (which work smoothly) would eventually perish no doubt but I don't think there's anything you could do about that.
Big plus for me is that it's not tied to a cartoon or other commercial stuff so my nephew is free to use his own imagination when playing with it rather than mentally rehashing episodes of the saccharine drivel on kids TV (Apologies for editorializing but the jingles drive me mad, especially when incorporated into toys).
My only complaint is that a workman to put in the cabin is not included and you have to buy them separately.
On the subject of educational value I've given three stars as I don't feel qualified to comment (no kids myself). I can't see it being obviously bad for a child.
In short if you're after a digger with potential (elastic bucket and track concerns are only concerns so far) for years of use then definitely worth considering.
