5.0 out of 5 stars A couple of the classic episodes, 7 Dec 2014
This review is from: Terry and June - Series 7 [DVD][1983] (DVD)
Series 7 has a couple of the classic episodes. 'The Raft Race', where Terry installs a motor onto his Raft in an attempt to cheat and win the race, is maybe the best episode from all 9 series.
The other classic episode is "The Artistic touch" where Terry is entrusted to look after a valuable portrait of the chairman.

Season seven of Terry and June is one of nine series.
Terry Scott and June Whitfield star in this seventh series of "Terry and June".
This is an entertaining bit of farcical comedy that has a lot to offer. Series seven has some very fine episodes indeed with true comedy and a warm, comfortable and very experienced approach to comedy.

This Seventh series was recorded in 1983. It was originally transmitted between October and December that year. It is still a very entertaining series thirty years later.
Each episode has a different and brief comedy intro as the opening credits begin. They are the same intros that were used in season three, four, five and six. Each is a variation on the same idea that Terry takes some drinks outside to join June for a nice sit in the garden. But each version is different and slapstick.

This is an excellent set of six programmes from a classic comedy and when you consider the stuff that's passed off as comedy these days you realise just how good Terry and June really were.

Terry takes up photography and gets all the complicated equipment. June prefers the old simple camera. Then Terry gets the job of taking some pictures of Sir Dennis for an advert. In another story Terry makes some Rock Cakes for the Church fete. He accidentally loses a Ring belonging to June. Believing the Ring to be in the Rock cakes he tries to get them back. Nobody wants the cakes and the vicar has fed them to the pigs. Terry brings a pig home. In episode three Terry has to help out in a raft race. He knows he cannot win it so he cheats and gets into a terrible mess. Terry and June decide to hold a barbecue party. This becomes a disaster as the garden gets wrecked and Terry makes endless amounts of burgers. Terry and June have to go to a funeral but somehow end up attending the wrong funeral. And in the final episode Terry has to look after a new portrait of Sir Dennis. The painting gets damaged and Terry and June stage a robbery of the painting to cover up the accident.

At the time of its transmission the series was often mocked and scoffed at. It was criticised by some people as being too corny and old fashioned. It was traditional comedy and not "alternative". Other people loved it. I really liked it back then and have even more respect for it now. It may not be non stop roaring with laughter comedy, (what show actually is like that?) but it does have some very funny moments. Terry and June Medford are an ordinary middle class couple who live in suburban Purley. Terry is accident prone, helpless and over ambitious. June is his long suffering wife who has to cope with the mess that Terry gets into.
Terry works for Sir Dennis Hodge who often calls at the Medford's home just at the wrong time.
Terry is well intentioned but many misunderstandings lead to a lot of farcical situations and Terry and June always get into complications trying to get out of the situations they find themselves in.

June Whitfield is excellent and Terry Scott is also very good with his comic expressive face and timing. Both Terry Scott and June Whitfield offer us a warm and inviting performance.
This seventh series is a good classic comedy that should not be forgotten.

A very stoich and pleasant sitcom with both Terry and June excellent in their respective roles - a gentle comedy in, perhaps, a more re-assuring age
