At this price this is a really cheap way of not only getting into digital tv with freeview but with HDMI output? The images look brilliant on an HD ready LCD TV. The colours are far more "normal" than standard scart from a basic SKY box and the clarity is spot on, particularly noticeable on BBC's nature programs. Believe me I've used a split screen comparison between HDMI and SKY (Scart) and there is a clear difference in favour of the Goodmans. As a past repairer of monitors, I know what I'm looking for in picture quality and for this price, it's a steal! Only one snag, it tended to lock up too many times to be useful operationally! Eventually got a refund - no problems from Amazon who's return policy is excellent.

Just got this item, removed my far more expensive 'basic' Digibox and plugged this in with the scart and was impressed, only point to note is that although you set the 'widescreen' and '1080i' at installation, it doesn't save these settings, I had to go back into the configuration, reset to these and save them, the picture quality is great compared to more expensive non-HD scaling products. Plug in the HDMI lead and it is supurb, guess there is no point having HD or HD ready TV without HD compatible receiver or DVD!! For the price of a standard digibox, you get far more with this product, would recommend it, although don't pay twice the price (£70) for a HDMI lead, search amazon and you'll get one much cheaper (£5.99 with postage) and equally effective.

The difference between scart and HDMI on my 23" LCD television was much greater than I thought. Although the "scart" picture quality is not bad at all, the "HDMI" picture is simply much better. The upscaling works well and bring a lot more clarity to the picture you're seeing. The only slightly annoying issue I found is that the remote control needs to be exactly pointed to the box itself, otherwise you'll have trouble switching channels.

The manual could be better, but it is almost as simple as plug and play. Plug it in correctly and it'll pretty much sort itself out.

If you own or are about to buy a HD TV i highly recommend that you buy a freeview box with upscaling capability like this one. This model works great, the picture is much sharper and there little to no digital noise on the picture compared to using scart. It almost looks like a real HD source!
The only niggle i have with this is that you can accidentally change the HD resolution by hitting the centre button on the remote, but otherwise its fine :)
BUY IT!!!! but... from Argos because its only £30 there :)

I don't know what some people expect, honestly. I bought this as a birthday present for my Mum as she has been going on about getting freeview for ages. It was really quick and easy to set up (I reckon my Mum could have managed it herself actually, and she's 73)and it works perfectly. At the moment she only has a fairly old CRT television so the upscaling doesn't come into the equation, but if at any time she upgrades the TV at least it is ready for it. No complaints here - for the money its a great bit of kit, well worth purchasing. And for the record, I think Sagem stuff is absolute PANTS!!! (I have had a Sagem phone and Freeview, and they were both rubbish, both were returned for refund)
And why would anyone think this works on a satellite dish??? DER! I guess it takes all sorts.......

Received the box, un-plugged the old digi-receiver, plugged in the Goodmans one, a bit of setup (HDMI output, which can be changed later) it scanned, found the channels, I selected the favourites to make it easier for 74 yr old father to find the channels and now it's working just fine. Which is what you expect from a 'white good' nowadays. I concur with the comments about the remote control, it's rubbish unless pointed directly at the middle of the box.

It even came with a co-ax and scart cable. Not quality ones, but I've spent more and got less cables in the past, so only loses one star for the crap remote.

I'm buying another one for myself.

Got this box as I have a HD ready TV but no SKY HD box. Needed a new freeview for the bedroom so thought I would try this on the off chance it may produce slightly better picture. It didn't, infact I'd say my own TV's tuner was superior. OK for a freeview box but don't expect anything more.

With two conflicting reviews I thought I would give it a try, wish I hadn't.

As far as I can tell there is no upscaling. I have a HDTV connected to PC (Nebula DigiTV) and XBOX 360 (with the HD-DVD drive & VGA connection) so I know how good upscaling can be. The picture is of no higher quality than the scarted Goodmans box I have in the spare room.

Menu is Now/Next with preview or 7-Day with no preview. After having had several freeview boxes I still say the Sagem ITD64 is the best.

Fine as a basic Freeview box, but it's main selling feature is below average, as far as my LCD monitor shows (Samsung 2032MW). I'm talking about it's ability to upscale. The resulting 720p, from this device, 'almost' looks the same as 576i, viewed on my monitor, via scart-RGB. 1080i is slightly better. I guess you will only notice the upconversion if your LCD monitor is truly bad at handling lower resolution video.

You will be impressed by the picture of this freeview box, it really does make a big difference when watching on a hd tv. The sound is stunning too. I took a star off though as it broke after 2 years, 1st the sound kept switching off then the picture went.
