I've watched many of the different paranormal investigation shows that have grown up over recent years and rate this as one of the best. Unlike most shows of this nature, Ghost Hunters concentrates on interviewing witnesses who had strange experiences at each location, rather than taking the approach of bringing in psychics and investigators to record their experiences as they happen. Personally I prefer this approach as it removes the need for producing sensationalist (and dubious) results. Each episode is well researched and interviews are conducted with multiple witnesses. I found this very interesting and it is one of the best, if not the best, paranormal investigation shows I have seen. If you are interested in the paranormal but are not a big fan of the Most Haunted type of approach, then I recommend this.

Most of you may be familiar with the highly popular ''Most Haunted'' series. It may of started off with much interest in the research into genuine paranormal phenomena but ended up becoming ''The X-Files'' (many series, lots of episodes and it was acting). Go back to 1996 when the Discovery Channel first aired ''Ghosthunters'' and you could not get a more realistic and genuine documentary about the paranormal. Relying more on witness testimony and interviews with the professionals (scientists, historians and psychologists) this series accounts for more of an informative view on the subject. Some great locations are shown ranging from battlefields to bypasses. Historical buildings such as castles and old inns also feature throughout the series. You will get to know at least half of the scientists/psychologists names at the end of your DVD viewing as they do appear more than once in interviews as their background knowledge is substantial in concluding theories about the topics covered about the paranormal. I also love the eerie music at the opening/closing credits of each episode. This adds that extra bit of weight to the overall audio presentation of the series with some atmospheric music during episodes as well. Overall then one of the best paranormal documentaries, certainly up there with ''Arthur C. Clarke's'' series and the Michael Aspel one ''Strange but True''. It will open your mind.

'Ghosthunters' is about as far removed from the appalling 'Most Haunted' as it's possible to get - and is all the better for it!

The series is worth buying just for the episode 'An Invisible Intelligence', which deals with the strange goings-on that took place in a lawnmower repair shop in Wales.

In that particular episode various employees share first-hand accounts of their encounters with an apparent poltergeist-like entity who they affectionately named 'Pete'.

I would strongly recommend this series to anyone with a serious interest in Fortean/Paranormal phenomena.

William Woolard's excellent series remains the bench mark for all other series concerning the investigation of the paranormal. If your are bewildered by the number of series and titles made on this subject and the conflicting reviews written, start with this, "GhostHunters", which was originally aired on the Discovery channel I think. The subject is treated more as a scientific investigation, rather than resorting to sensationalism, but still has a creepy air to it. Thoroughly recommended.
