5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Way to be Introduced to Social Distortion, 15 Feb 2008

This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Although this collection may be short and perhaps misses out a few classics, Greatest Hits is a strong run-through of Social Distortion's career. I'd say this is the first purchase any new fan should make to gain a good introduction to what the bands all abaout.

Mommy's Little Monster and Another State of Mind express catchy punk rock efforts, Prison Bound and Ball and Chain show Disotrtion's country incfluences whilst the epic nature of When the Angels Sing can tear down walls with it's sense of urgency. Far Behind is the final track on the record, a new track, recordrd especially for the greatest hits and it doesn't dissapoint. Far Behind is a pure punk rock anthem which should strike a chord with any listener. On a personal level, Story of My Life is the album's highlight as it sums up everything great about Social Distortion and features lyrics I can relate to closely.

If you like punk, rock n' roll, country or anything along these lines give Social Distortion a listen, the lyrics are at times, phoenomenal and heartfelt and the songs are laden with hooks and riffs which can't be found anywhere else (Mike Ness' vocals are incredible on every track). This record is only just a preview of Social Distortion's genious, consider this the first stepping stone into their music. Every elbum they have is packed with classic punk rock tracks.

A mate recommended this band after seeing them live in the UK. On the first listen I had to say that it was ++++++! But several weeks later I decided to give it another try and I ended up playing it three times from beginning to end. A slightly odd style byut quite accesible and some good tunes - not sure I'll go for the actual albums bit as a newcomer to this band I reckon its A OK.
