5.0 out of 5 stars Hed Pe on top form on their newest record
This is a really great record from Hed PE. It fuses elements of hardcore punk and rap and has some of the best material they've recorded since the days of broke and blackout.

Game over is amazing. The song moves effortlessly from pure hip hop to hardcore punk. Walk on by is more old school Hed Pe with a straight up rap metal sound. Then songs like tiennaman...

Just to say, that 'blackout' was not (hed) pe's roots, they were around long before with their self titled album in 1997 and were actually more hiphop based metal. So with this album it seems they are actually going back to their roots and not away from them like in recent albums which were horrible. This is not a great album, but its worth more than one star.

4.0 out of 5 stars (hed) p.e., 5 Nov 2007

American rap-metallers (hed) p.e. have been around for 12 years, and with 'Insomnia', they release the 6th full length album of their career. This is a band who seem to be able to effortlessley fuse together just about every style of music possible, and 'Insomnia' is the usual melting pot of rap, metal, punk, techno, hip-hop...you name it!

The highlights of the album include the down and dirty single 'Suffa' - a fast, angry song with lyrics to remember. It's worth mentioning here that the lyrics on this album are more mature, particularly when compared to the 'Only in Amerika' album where it seemed (hed) p.e. were trying to break the record for the amount of swearing on a single album. The strongest track on 'Insomia' is 'Walk on By' which reminds of the bands older, more popular material with frontman Jahred Shane screaming, shouting and rapping with tremendous potency.

(hed) p.e.'s variation is on show throughout. 'Comeova2nite' is straight-out hip-hop, 'Tienaman Squared' is hardcore punk and all this follows the dark, creepy, atmospheric introduction 'Madhouse'. Unfortunately, 'Insomnia' is not without its weaker moments. The ridiculous 'Mirrorballin' is the worst song that has graced my hi-fi system for a long time, while 'Game Over' brought back memories of the dissapointing 'Only in Amerika' record.

If you didn't like (hed) p.e. before, then 'Insomnia' will not change your mind - that's for sure. However, although not quite as fresh as their 97's debut, and not quite as assured as 2000's excellent 'Broke', 'Insomnia' is overall a strong album and is sure to receive a thumbs up from (hed) p.e.'s loyal underground following. OK it has a stinker or two, but isn't that what the skip button is for?

This is a really great record from Hed PE. It fuses elements of hardcore punk and rap and has some of the best material they've recorded since the days of broke and blackout.

Game over is amazing. The song moves effortlessly from pure hip hop to hardcore punk. Walk on by is more old school Hed Pe with a straight up rap metal sound. Then songs like tiennaman squared just sound like a punkrock band. The album is pretty heavy and jahred spends a lot of time singing about conspiracy theories and freeemasonry. Make no mistake about it this is a punkrock album in attitude whilst the music blends elements of hip hop, punk, metal and reggae. The softest moment on the cd is children, which samples bruce springstein, which is a moving and uplifting song.

This album continues from where back 2 base x finished and i would reccomend it to any Hed Pe fan. This is a huge improvement lyrically and musically from the dissapointing only in amerika. Also if you get the chance checkout these guys on tour, they put on an amazing show, so much energy.

I never rate albums on amazon but felt compelled to warn anyone thinking about buying this album.

Purchasing this cd was the last nail in the coffin for me with HED PE. This is a band who have become progressively worse over time... at an exponential rate.

They claim to be a hardcore punk band, but I've never heard so much rap (and a hint R&B/hip hop) from any band claiming to be so hardcore. Some people might think that their sound on this album is orginal, but I think it's just rubbish. They've completley moved away from their roots and awesome sounds like those which were found on their album "Blackout".

This album is going straight in the bin - I just don't feel right trying to sell it off to anyone else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Hed Album, another shot a greatness..., 23 Jun 2007
This review is from: Insomnia (Audio CD)
This album is going to be evrything you expect from Hed PE whilst also being nothing you expected it to be. Every new album brings a different Hed sound to the table and Insomnia doesn't seem to brake that trend.

The first song to have been released from the album is "Suffa". I sat for a few minutes guessing what it might sound like before clicking play and enjoying yet another great Hed track.

Hed PE never dissapoint when it comes down to originality and overall amazing beats.
