4.0 out of 5 stars Blind Guardian clones!, 28 April 2007

This review is from: When Eden Burns (Audio CD)
Now some of you might have heard last years release of Savage Circus's brilliant debut album `Dreamland Manor'. This came straight out the smouldering furnace of Blind Guardian, as two of the members from Persuader namely, vocalist Jens Carlsson and guitarist Emil Norberg joined forces with Thomas Stauch (ex Blind Guardian drummer) to create this band. What amazed me was Carlsson was a total dead ringer to Blind Guardians Hansi Kürsch and the likeness was uncanny.

Now with the latest release from Persuader, `When Eden Burns' this is one blazing power metal release. Again, similarities are drawn to Blind Guardian as previously mentioned concerning Carlsson's vocal delivery.

This is pretty much, where the Blind Guardian/Persuader analogy ceases, other than the intensity and power of the music is very comparable. Swedish band, Persuader are a hard-hitting European sounding power metal band that deliver just what one would expect from this genre, great guitar work, powerhouse drumming, thumping bass work and aggressive and clear vocals.

There are ten tracks on offer here and all are have the same intensity throughout. However, I did find that Carlsson's vocals did exasperate me just past the half way point as he sounds forced, lacking variety or emotion. However, I do like the guitar playing of Norberg and Daniel Sundbom as they incorporate some nice solos into the songs followed by the tasty rhythm drumming of Efraim Juntunen. Overall, a solid band with some memorable songs, but overall I do believe the production could have been crisper as I found it to be somewhat shallow sounding.

5.0 out of 5 stars The albums get better and better, 6 Oct. 2006
This review is from: When Eden Burns (Audio CD)
This is a more melodic album than 'purgatory' but still very powerful. The guys are beginning to evolve into a more unique sound with this album and if the industry is kind to them they deserve to make the big time. Forget the trendy manufactured US thrash/power metal bands, these guys are the real deal; good, honest, hard working and gifted musicians. 5 Stars.
