This review is from: András Schiff - Concertos And Chamber Music (Audio CD)
This is another of those card boxes that Warner (and many other labels) put out in the last few years in order to package up some of those recordings made in the 1985-99 CD "frenzy" that many indulged in to their great cost.

Andras Schiff needs no introduction from me; all I would say is that these performances are delightful, well-recorded, and cover diverse repertoire. For the avoidance of doubt, the box contains the following Teldec recordings, all of which date from between 1996 and 1999.

CDs 1-3 are the Beethoven piano concertos (+ "Appasionata" sonata) with Haitink and the Staatskapelle Dresden, previously released as Beethoven - Piano Concertos.

CD 4 has the three Bartok piano concertos with the Budapest Festival Orchestra & Ivan Fischer, previously released as Bartók - Piano Concertos Nos 1,2 and 3.

CD 5 has music from a composer new to me, Sandor Veress, with the Budapest Festival Orchestra & Heinz Holliger, previously released as Veress - Piano Works.

CD 6 has some lovely performances of Mozart piano trios, previously on Mozart: Piano Trios.

CDs 7 & 8 has Schubert's "Arpeggione" sonata and three trios, previously on Schubert - Piano Trios Nos 1 & 2;Notturno;Sonata for Arpeggione.

CD 9 has Dvorak's piano quintet Op 81 and quartet Op 87, previously on Dvoák - Piano Quartet 2 & Piano Quintet 2.

You do need to be careful with these re-issue boxed sets, as many of the titles have been re-released on mid-price or budget-price labels, too. This is the case here with some of these CDs having appeared on the Warner "Elatus" and "Maestro" labels. Looking at the price for the individual discs (or those that remain generally available), this box saves a great deal of money!

Highly recommended as a great package of diverse music. Nice little box and adequate, if rather gushing, booklet.
