I enjoyed this recording immensely. Pavarotti, Caballe and Milnes are perfect casting. I also have the RCA recording with Moffo, Bergonzi and MacNeil, but as a whole I think this recording is better.

The ensemble cast(including a cameo by Pavarotti's dad) are great, and I agree with the other reviewer - Richard Van Allan is a wonderfully evil Wurm.

Luisa Miller is early Verdi heading full-on to the rich vein of Rigoletto, Il Trovatore and La Traviata. If you like Verdi it's a must-have.

This opera means a great deal to me, the late Richard Van Allen was a close personal friend, our regular discussions on music and opera are sadly missed.
In this performance his superb base baritone is heard at its best!
To me it is a precious momento.
The whole opera as one expects of Verdi is breathtaking and this performance especially so!

This is the reference recording for this delightful bel-canto early Verdi opera in DDD sound, surpassing the earlier ADD recording with Anna Moffo. Caballé and Pavarotti are splendid and the conducting is bright and joyous. The Verdi score is a musical delight. There is another editon of this performace in a Digipak edition re-issued without libretto but with synopsis which is lower priced.Verdi - Luisa Miller and here is the former reference recording with Anna Moffo Luisa Miller

A wonderful dramatic Opera not heard as much as it deserves to be,Caballé is at her very best.
Some of the loveliest arias you would wish to hear.
