5.0 out of 5 stars Fifteen Street's- <3
This is one of those films, which you just want to tell the world about, I love the actors the story line everything!! every girl loves a romance, but it appeals to men to with the violence, and plot. What a will say is why it's not one of her most famous novels,I'll never know, but to be honest, she'd written a few so they can't all go down a storm. Sean Bean is the only...

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring
This is one of the worst Catherine Cookson films I have ever seen. The story is based on a lot of shouting and fighting with no particular storyline. I didn't like the ending where it finishes suddenly when the teacher moves into the house next door so that she can be with her lover. We see them kissing and then that is it. I was shocked that the film just suddenly...

What a will say is why it's not one of her most famous novels,I'll never know, but to be honest, she'd written a few so they can't all go down a storm. Sean Bean is the only name you'll know, and believe me he plays a truly memorable character! but the Cast are all wonderful actors, it period dramas at it's best!! Liverpool makes for a lovely location. And how often do you hear that said!! Well product info, Well its on DVD in a Daily Mirror Case, unfortunately it doesn't come with tissues and popcorn!

The perfect gift for all readers of historical fiction is THE ROMA VICTRIX WINE BEAKERCalix Imperium, Roma Victrix Pewter wine beaker
This is a magnificent piece of work. It's human. It's happy. It's sad. It's tragic. It's an improbable love story set in the grim world of the Newcastle docks around the turn of the twentieth century.

This is a film made by people who love making movies. It shows in every frame. The characters are strong and they're real. The grim atmosphere of the brick and concrete tenement district has been caught accurately, both its human and inhuman dimensions. Yet there are many warm and charming scenes among those that are bleak or tragic.

The subdued colour, the rain and the snow at times, probably are more effective than black and white would have been. I would have given it a 5 save for the ending is a little silly.Overall this excellent adaptation is one of those stimulating films that trigger interesting discussions and arguments. Highly recommended.

The Fifteen Streets
Just Finished reading this book and I am now near the end of the little stock I have left af Catherine Cookson's books I read all the big volumes years ago and only since searching on the internet have discovered more of her works that I had not read . Im amazed that these books are so brilliant and written as if we are in the time that they are about . Fanny Mcbride was not one that was given a very good review but i purchased it anyway and loved it . I loved the Characters as no one can bring someone to life with such power as Catherine Cookson . The fifteen Street may have been a lesser knowm book but although a fictional area it was a part of Tyne-side played out many times in her books so must resemble a part of the county that she knew very well . Im glad that she wrote so many wonderful novels as no other writer can bring a story to life as catherine Cookson could for me and all the followers she had all over the world .

I am not a Catherine Cookson lover but I do like Sean Bean. Originally Owen Teale headlined the cast but then Sean Bean became more famous so he was put as the lead actor. Quite good if you like the gritty, dour north east of the period, something like the late 19th century period I think.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Dee as ya telt", buy it., 25 Aug. 2014
This review is from: The Fifteen Streets [DVD] (DVD)
The fifteen streets: where most families rely on the dockyards for work. The O'Brien's, living on the bread line, have five children, of which three are boys. The two eldest, played by Owen Teal (John) and Sean Bean (Dominic), are always at loggerheads. Because of a family tragedy, the brothers have a real 'bloody' punch up towards the end of the story......A romantic attachment develops between John and the local school teacher, whose parents are wealthy shipyard owners. The teacher's hoity-toity mother does not approve............There are plenty of exciting moments in this Northern drama: the river Tyne features in it too...............................If you purchase this DVD the storyline will not disappoint you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Catherine Cookson Land, 12 Aug. 2013

Catherine Cookson wrote a lot of books, some of which were televised. She was born in the north of England and wrote about the people around her. Poverty, division of classes, brutality, love and family are all covered. The cast, headed by Sean Bean did a fine job of portraying the story of The Fifteen Streets. The story is dark as most of her books are. She tells it like it was. Her storyline is interesting and the characters well fleshed out. I enjoyed this one and recommend it.

This must be one of the longest of The Catherine Cookson stories and it is terrific from the start to the end. Well worth the low price asked for. This film is worth far more than it retails for!!!!

I first saw this film when in the forces and I found it outstanding. Unlike many of the modern films which tend to go far away from the literature this film does not....outstanding
