how good is it, 22 May 2011

I got this because i needed something portable and light.I live near to a airport so i thought this is ideal, not so it is really hard to use. it took me the best part of a day just to try and prgrame in one freqency. Apart from that it is small and looks great.

Got this to replace my bearcat 120 scanner, good scanner, bit hard to program as i was use to my old one. a thing to note is the pc cable that comes with it will only work with a Parallel port so i have had to get a addapter for USB.

The scanner lives up to its description. It is versatile and has a reasonable range with the ariel supplied. It seems ideal for the beginner or casual user.

Overall a very good scanner. Well built and solid. As a first scanner it seemed complex to program, but I am sure that was more to do with my age and IQ!! I was a little disappointed that it does not cover military aviation (but of course I would not listen to this anyway!!!) Despite this given it's price thus far I have been very impressed and it's very compact (unlike me!!!!!!!!), which has got to be a good thing!

I have been a radio enthusiast since the 50's and have owned an R1155A RAF bomber receiver from 1942, a Radio Shack Canada Uniden, to an ICOM PCR-1000 wide band scanner. This unit is user-unfriendly, and the software is only an exact mimic of the poor design. I was expecting another great Uniden radio and got a very sensitive radio that is impossible to use.
