Ignore the Amazon synopsis; it refers to the wrong film, but that may be ironed out by the time you read this!

I won't review the film because those who reviewed the VHS version have done that well, except to say that I agree that it's a lovely film; funny and touching.

If you are thinking of upgrading to the DVD version, don't bother, unless you've worn it out. The transfer is one of the worst I've seen. The sloppy work is shown by the following:

Sound is ordinary and still makes it very difficult to follow the French.
No proper anamorphic widescreen (you have to fill the screen manually to 16:9 , thus losing the definition and saturation.)
Colour is wishy-washy.
Picture is grainy.
Blacks aren't black enough
Subtitles are on at all times and can't be turned off
No audio options
No scene selection
No extras

To be honest I think my VHS version is better and how the production company can manage to release a DVD of inferior quality is quite remarkable. A totally rushed job and possibly a direct VHS transfer.

The film deserves 4 stars and some people will love it so much they will give it 5, but due to the quality of this version I've dropped a star.

You've been warned.

This is a sweet, funny film that should be more readily available. The American remake did not do it any justice - somehow it is extremely amusing in French but just doesn't cut it in English.

GD is as always very funny, very restrained, hysterical facial expressions... it's sweet how he tries his best to back up his daughter's outrageous stories.

After all is said and done it's about the relationship between father and daughter more than her and the guy she falls for, and all the better for it. Watch it!

Wonderful, warm and funny film looking at the relationship of a dad and his teenage daughter, combined with an entertaining view of teenage behaviour. Fantastic, sensitive acting, all the way to the end and fabulous scenery. I watched it with my daughters aged 10 and 12 and we all managed the subtitles well. Looking forward to watching it again... and again.

The original story of a relation ship between father an a daughter. Good one, shows well how things can be very tricky with teenage daughter.

Great film, I'm glad I was able to buy it on Amazon as it's quite hard to find. Very quick delivery.

It's a french drama about difficulties in a father and daughter relationship with a few good jokes thrown in. Even when at the end Andre (Depardieu) phones up Isabelle and asks her to marry him and bear him a daughter, it is not out of joy and fulfilment, but out of despair and lonelines. Even though it's not a bad drama, for comedy better get the American remake which is by far more light-hearted and yet not dull like most of other Hollywood comedies.

Not Gerard Depardieu's best film
