5.0 out of 5 stars NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A PRISON!!!!, 8 Feb 2008

This review is from: Ross Kemp on Gangs: El Salvador - Cape Town - St. Louis - Moscow [DVD] (DVD)
Just watched this DVD on gangs and I have to say it blow me away what a eye opener that was in a word brillant. Mr Kemp I think must have done a lot of research and made alot of phone calls to get into the places he did and it goes without saying having to meet them face to face. He meet the active members of the gangs as well as one Top General that looked and sounded like one nasty piece of work. Most lads that are banged up in our prisons today who think they are big tough guys might be but trust me the two prisons Mr Kemp visited that house the gangs MS13 and the Numbers Gang they wouldn't last a day. These prisons have their own sets of rules when you get 1 warden to 100 prisoners or no wardens inside the prisons just armed guards and police outside stopping the other gangs from getting in that for me is in a different league. Looking at the work Mr Kemp put into this is a credit to him and his film crew let's hope he keeps up the good work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brutally Honest, 24 Jan 2008
This review is from: Ross Kemp on Gangs: El Salvador - Cape Town - St. Louis - Moscow [DVD] (DVD)
I have seen the El Salvador and Cape Town episodes and I was shocked on what an honest account this programme was on gangs. Ross Kemp gets right to the heart of the gang culture and often appears to put himself in danger purely to try and understand the gangs ethics.

This is no sugar coated story of gangs. We learn about the history of the gangs, the initiation tests and the reason for gang rivalry. The scary thing is that often there is no real reason for gang members killing each other or each others family members.

The filming is equally as shocking as the gang's stories as we see shots of dead bodies lying on the side of the road or being loaded into the back of vans to be taken to the morgue.

I didn't expect this show to be such an honest and to-the-point portrayal of gangs and it is hard to comprehend coming from a completely different culture. The lack of future for these gang memmber is what is also quite frightening and it is almost as if they have accepted that they will, at some point, be killed by a rival gang.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 21 Mar 2008

Rarely am I shocked but equally thrilled. This is a great series which is covered very well by the ex-eastender. If the theme is your bag then make sure you at least watch the series and I would certainly recommend spending money on adding it to your DVD collection. The coverage is in depth, balanced (mostly) and allows the footage to do most of the work. My only criticism (and this is being picky) is that Ross Kemp (as the face of the show) always takes the moral highground. For me, he should not take any moral ground at all and this should be left to the audience. But then again, if you are trying to infiltrate a nazi gang, thus having to play along with it, the last thing he wants is for the viewers to think that he actually agrees with it - therefore, he is at pains to make his true feelings clear on the camera!!! Brilliant show - watch it!

More scary gangs from all over the world. Starting to worry about the risks Mr Kemp keeps taking doing these films. Credit to him for showing the whole story and not just focusing on violence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly informative, 26 Aug 2011
This review is from: Ross Kemp on Gangs: El Salvador - Cape Town - St. Louis - Moscow [DVD] (DVD)
I'm a big Ross Kemp on Gangs fan, and this series is in my opinion the best. In particular the El Salvador episode shows tremendous insight into the life and Workings of MS-13. Considering the price, this is an essential to your DVD collection.
