5.0 out of 5 stars Another Quality Season
Ds9 kicks off in feature film style in season 4 with "The Way of The Warrior" parts 1 and 2 interlinked. This was really well done. Putting every character including almost every guest character into the hole thing and all the characters linking the story together. Worf from "The Next Generation" makes his first appearance as a main character in this episode all the way...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Quality Season, 24 Oct. 2007

This review is from: Star Trek - Deep Space Nine - Series 4 (Slimline Edition) [DVD] (DVD)
Ds9 kicks off in feature film style in season 4 with "The Way of The Warrior" parts 1 and 2 interlinked. This was really well done. Putting every character including almost every guest character into the hole thing and all the characters linking the story together. Worf from "The Next Generation" makes his first appearance as a main character in this episode all the way to the final in season 7. The battle sqequences and interlinking of all the alien races and characters make this 2 parter work so well. Following this are 2 excellent episodes "The Visitor" with Jake as an old man in the future reflecting on the past that took his father. A very emotional episode indeed and the actors can be very proud of their work. The writers too. "Hippocratic Oath" sees Miles and Julian captured by Jem Hadar and both characters are in disagreement as to how to deal with a complex situation. On disc 2 "Indiscretion follows" on and is a very unlightly combination of focusing on Kira and Du Kat being partners to rescue some long lost crash victims. It gets more complex as the episode progreses. Nice to see ds9 using outdoor locations like the desert which was really convincing of an alien crash site in this episode.
"Little Green Men" Is a very imaginative funny episode involving Quark, Nog and Rom somhow being transported back in time to Roswell in 1947 - You know this is the real truth about Roswell, the proof is in the episode. "Starship Down" put me on edge when I saw it first as it seems 1 or more of the main character might have died becuase of the devastation done to the Defiant by the Dominion. "Sword Of Kahless" sees Jadzia, Worf and Kor go in search for the legendary Sword only to have other parties purse it too. Thers a James Bond style episode "Our Man Bashir" whcih interesting and entertaining seeing the main cast members and Garak play roles or maybe there alter egos? in the Holsuite. Rom forms A Union in "Bar Association" which I like now where as in previous years I would have overlooked this kind of episode a lot. A ferengi Episode involving mostly Rom, and other Ferengi and Lita. A lot of credit should go to Max Grodenchik for playing Rom. From the episode Rom suffers a bad ear ache "Brother am I still standing?" then keels over unconcious. "Lita to Quark, "Arent you going to do something?" Quark replies, " Yes I am, Im going to dock his pay" Rom tries to form a Workers Union. On disc 6 is "To The Death" You never thought youd see the federation and the Dominion team up, but they do for this episode and Wyoun makes his debut in ds9. Th actor actually played a 1 off character in season 1 and severeal other characters inlcuding Brunt and Shran in Enterprise. "Body Parts" sees Quark having to auction off his body parts in the second last episode of the season, Garaks in this 1 too. Then "Broken Link" is the final of season 4 and ends the Season well with but with Odo in trouble.
There are slightly more extras in season 4 than seasons 1-5. They are "Charting New Territory:DS9 Season 4", "Crew Dossier:LT Worf", "Michael Westmores Aliens Season 4", "DS9 Sketchbook: John Eaves"
"Bob Blackmans Designs of the Future", "Jim Martin Sketchbook", "DS9 Chronicles", "PHOTO GALLERY" And as always semi hidden section 31 hidden files/easter eggs to find and click on involving quick few minute inteviews with cast members or producers and artists of the show.

5.0 out of 5 stars DS9 Series 3,4,5 and TNG Series 3, 4 , 5, 9 Mar. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Star Trek - Deep Space Nine - Series 4 (Slimline Edition) [DVD] (DVD)
I was an avid fan of the Original Series, TNG and Voyager, though preferrred TNG. Having watched some of the earlier episodes of DS9 when first broadcast I was less impressed though the arrival of the Dominion improved the interest factor.
Have recently begun buying the slimline versions of TNG and DS9, both of which are excellent value, enabling me to avoid watching terrestrial television altogether, I have increasingly enjoyed DS9, its characters and stories. Some stories are rather trite, but all Star Trek series were guilty of that. Nevertheless I now watch each evening and enjoy the experience, though attempting to ration my viewing is difficult. Both series provide real pleasure and even the puerile episodes are tolerated.
I can recommend thoroughly both series and I am considering buying Voyager, especially if the price continues to fall. As ever, Amazon delivery times are most impressive and usually ahead of the projected delivery dates.

Brilliant series all round, the best Star Trek series of them all.

For anyone interested in replacing seasons 1-4 (of the old larger case sets) which had a problem with the design of the cases causing centre hole becoming damaged, I want to assure you, absolutely, that these slimcase sets are absolutely identical in disc structure and menu design. The only difference is the image on the disks which is no real problem.

For anyone wanting to buy DS( as a complete series - simply get them in this format. The price is amazing when compared to the large cased first releases, I wish I had known they were going to make these as I could have saved a fortune.

The station gets a rude awakening by a huge armada of Klingon ships led by Chancellor Gowron and General Martok arrive and shortly after visting the station things fall apart quickly to the point where Worf of the enterprise arrives to try find out what the klingon warships are for which is soon answered, the situation then gets more awkward when the newly promoted Captain Sisko rescues several prominent cardassian figures and when the kligons find out, the armada reaches DS9 and a fight breaks out between the once strong allies which ends up in the klingons retreating and pulling out of the important khitomer accords that the previous era entered into because of an important klingon planet of Praxis blew up.

With the kligons now enemies of the federation and chaos ensuing elsewhere, things start settling down on the station however a starfleet adimral pulls Captain Sisko away from DS9 to earth when starfleet's own paranoid beliefs are questioned, after three encounters with the dominiom shapeshifters on earth things got so paranoid that a fight between the Defiant and the Lakota breaks out.

With Sisko back on DS9 after turning his former C.O. in, several things start happening, Worf almost succeeds in killing Kurn, former klingon captain and emissary on the enterprise D as well as brother to Worf for Worf's dishonor, by refusing Gowron's call before the attack on Cardassia and Rom ends Quarks exploitation to such a degree even with an FCA liquidator on the station!. With all that said the station's senior security officers true colors are shown and a cargo bay full of replicators. Then the station comes under attack from the Dominion for a few components, however discover these dominion that attacked the station were renegades who also attacked another dominion ship, Sisko beams the survivors aboard including a Vorta named Weyoun.

At the end Odo becomes incapacitated and Garak tags along for the ride to the Dominions homeworld.

4.0 out of 5 stars starting to live up to it's full potential, 28 July 2007

After a less than stellar start to deep space nine with seasons 1 & 2,followed by the signs of a great show emerging in season 3,season 4 sees the show living up to its potential as it opens with a stunning 2 parter way of the warrior which introduces a certain klingon officer to the crew as well as escalate tensions to the breaking point between the federation & klingon empire, the season carries on going from strength to strength with some fine episodes delving into mirror universes, combining forces with sworn enemies love that never dies, & traitorous officers. By this point the cast were all comfortable with their respective roles & the special effects rather good, from action orientated episodes like to the death, way of the warrior, for the uniform to the more dramatic touching episodes like the visitor, rejoined, the quickening this series boasts some of the best stand alone episodes of deep space nine & at this low price its definitely worth a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars DS9's classic era, 4 May 2010
This review is from: Star Trek - Deep Space Nine - Series 4 (Slimline Edition) [DVD] (DVD)
The first three seasons of DS9 were excellent, especially season two, but this is where you'll find a real upsurge in quality that lasts to the end of the series. The classics in this season include "The Way of the Warrior", "The Visitor", "Little Green Men", "Our Man Bashir", "Homefront", "Paradise Lost", "Crossfire", "Hard Time", "To the Death" and "The Quickening".

4.0 out of 5 stars Star Trek Deep Space 9- Series 4, 24 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Star Trek - Deep Space Nine - Series 4 (Slimline Edition) [DVD] (DVD)
This series is good, but not the best of DS9... Ok., LT Wharf joins the station, there is a mini war with the Klingons and there is the further development of the characters. Other than that, there is little in this series that grabs one. Not as good as Series 6, lets say; however, its good sci-fi nonetheless...

Languages :
Dolby Digital 5.1 : english & German
Surrond : French, Italian, Spanish

Subtitles :
English, English for the hearing impaired, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish, Swedish.

I have bought the 7 seasons on amazon.uk and they are all the same about audio and subtitles.

Some words for french dudes :
La VF est bien "française" et pas "québecoise", ce sont exactement les mêmes DVD que ceux vendus en France / Belgique, seules les jaquettes (en anglais) changent. Ah oui, et le prix aussi, bien plus léger (15 / box au cours actuel contre 30 par box chez nous).
Pour info, j'ai commandé les 7 saisons de Deep Space Nine et au niveau audio / sous-titre, c'est pareil sur les 6 autres coffrets.

This is where the life on Deep Space 9 really takes on a defensive slant. With the introduction of Warf to the proceedings, the fight for the defence of the wormhole and the threat from the Dominion really gets going. Loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Way of The Warrior, 28 Nov. 2008
This review is from: Star Trek - Deep Space Nine - Series 4 (Slimline Edition) [DVD] (DVD)
Each season has been an improvement on the last and Season 4 is certainly no exception. If you need one reason to watch Season 4 let it be 'The Way of The Warrior' which is in my opinion by far the best DS9 Episode up to that point, and it's a double-episode! Worf makes a return, Klingons turn their back on the Federation and DS9 faces its first battle. Not be missed.
