This is an excellent collection, but it really isn't "music inspired by" Oh Brother, Where Art Thou; it's music which inspired the film and its soundtrack.

As one earlier reviewer said the title should be "Music which inspired 'Oh Brother..'" rather than "Music inspire by...."

Brilliant collection of vintage American folk music though. A bargain. 50 tracks in total over 2 CDs and not a dud one among them really. A bit of a cash in but if you liked the music from the film this delves further into that spooky world.

50 tracker from a label called NOT NOW goes back into the 20s to cover just about every important name from country and folk music history up to Bill Monroe,Bob Wills,Gene Autrey.A great sampler for those who want to discover where the music came from.
No sleeve notes or even dates though this sort of info is easy to come by nowadays

Having seen the film and thoroughly enjoyed it and the music I wanted to hear more. I am now hooked on "Hill-Billy" and I am enjoying this CD very much. Whilst it is not the actual sound track from the film it provides even more with well known artistes providing the music. Two CDs too, thought was very good value 25 songs.

They couldn't even get the name of the film right ('O Brother', not 'Oh! Brother'. If you're going to hijack a name do it properly. I think the idea of bringing the CD out was inspired by the success of the movie. Passing bandwagon, anyone? The label (NOT) seem to spend little time on information and other cosmetic stuff, but it doesn't detract from the music. As well as some fairly common material there are some real gems here, including what is reputedly the first recoding of 'Man of Constant Sorrow', by Emry Arthur and fine pieces from Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly. At the price, it's good value.

ehis cd based onthe original oh brother theme is very interesting, it contains a lot of old timey tunes that many people have forgotten or may not have even heard before,

burl Ives, the carter family, and what surely is the original version of
a man of constant sorrow,
very good.

Great selection of old country and bluegrass tracks. However, the music was not inspired by the film as T-Bone Burnett would tell you (and he should know)!

I have still not had enough of mountain music. Any body who fell in love with the 'Oh brother where art thou' sound track and mountain music genre, but still wants some guidance before heading off on their own, a great addition.

The music behind the film ............. A great companion to the movie soundtrack. A great intro to American folk music.
