This review is from: No Shouts, No Calls (Audio CD)
Never mind the Spice Girls, here's girl power. All-female Electrelane make music without overt political messages (and therefore free of glib slogans) but with more elliptical lyrics, sung in a number of languages. Many of the tracks have an urgency about them, the drumming being quite reminiscent of Joy Division's uptempo moments. The vague air of paranoia is diluted by breezy vocals and swirling organ, not altogether unrelated to Stereolab. The overall feel is more steely, less whimsical than Stereolab, and the better for it.
