5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic collection, beautiful design
I love these twenty volumes comprising a remarkably varied collection of narratives of classic historical travel and adventure across the world, from the times of the ancients right up to the modern age: Herodotus, Marco Polo, James Cook, Olaudah Equiano, Mas'udi, Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca, Lady Mary Montagu, Willian Dampier, Alexander von Humboldt, Richard Burton, Mark...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice books, shame they are not boxed
I bought this item as a present, and was a bit disappointed to see it is just a pile of books, rather than a boxed set. Considering they make up a collection, I would have thought they would come in a box. Maybe that should be made more clear on the product description.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic collection, beautiful design, 26 Nov. 2013
This review is from: The Great Journey's Collection - Set of 20 Books Retail Price £99.80 (Titles Include: Escape from the Antarctic by Ernest Shackleton, The Congo and the Cameroons by Mary Kingsley, Sold as a Slave by Olaudah Equiano...........) (Paperback)
I love these twenty volumes comprising a remarkably varied collection of narratives of classic historical travel and adventure across the world, from the times of the ancients right up to the modern age: Herodotus, Marco Polo, James Cook, Olaudah Equiano, Mas'udi, Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca, Lady Mary Montagu, Willian Dampier, Alexander von Humboldt, Richard Burton, Mark Twain, Alfred Russell Wallace, William Thesiger, Ernest Shakleton, George Orwell, Ryszard Kapuscinski - to mention some of the twenty traveller-authors. The tales are in most cases (substantial) excerpts, the most significant part of the journeys, taken from the original narratives, rather than the complete work, making the set more compact and manageable. The paperbacks are a handy pocket size for carrying and reading, while still have good clear sized print. But the best feature, apart from the stories themselves, are the beautiful cover designs specially commissioned for this particular edition which definitely enhance reading pleasure. I'm delighted with the set and wholeheartedly recommend it!
