5.0 out of 5 stars A Grand Final Home Run, 4 Aug. 2007
By
This review is from: Man About The House - The Complete Sixth Series [DVD] (DVD)
Further evidence, if any be needed, that the 1970s and '80s were television comedy's Golden Age. The last link in the glittering Man About The House chain, itself a jewel in a crown which none of the sitcom rubbish on our screens today deserves to wear. The sun sets affectionately on this wonderful creation which, unlike some, didn't outstay its welcome and maintained a consistently high standard of entertainment throughout. Justly reflecting its success, six series were nonetheless enough and now make for fondly nostalgic viewing (Did we really dress like that?!). Like pure gold, it has stood the test of time and endeared itself to subsequent generations. Yes, my children love it, too, and so should anyone who appreciates quality writing and casting.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Longing for Yesterday, 14 Jan. 2008

Robin "I LOVE THE OLD STUFF" (Paterson, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Man About The House - The Complete Sixth Series [DVD] (DVD)
Being from the USA, I never had the opportuninty to view this series until recently. I adore it and wish I could jump into the series and live their lives. There is an air of innocense about the characters that I don't think exists on present day sitcoms. Men were men back then, politically incorrect and for all it's worth, I long for the days when
men were like Robin and Larry. Chrissey was just too fasionable for words and Jo was cute and adorable and carefree.
The Ropers stole the show and they both were powerhouses of talent.
I recommend buying this. You will be very well entertained.

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Man About The House - The Complete Sixth Series [DVD] (DVD)
It must be remembered that the very last shots of this series remain in so many people's memories. Instead of tying up loose ends there is a last minute point of resolution that is just wonderful, tying up a series that revolutionised sit-coms in Britain, because it was one of the first to actually treat young adults as real people with real, and sometimes funny, problems. Anyone who didnt love Paula Wilcox or Richard O Sullivan at the time was out of the loop and even today we can still admire the delightful irony of their "relationship"
