5.0 out of 5 stars I'M MORE BRITISH THAN YOU *#@$FACE!
This is a great film right from the start when it kicks in with the jagged chords of The Exploited's 'UK82'. The acting is really good, although the language and content is definately not suitable for Mary Whitehouse followers (to hell with that lot anyway!!). The film doesn't have an ending in the usual sense, letting the viewer make up their own mind as to what happens...

3.0 out of 5 stars A horrible, but powerful film.
I guess you know what you are looking at if you have come this far.. You will have read the outline, and know it is about a violent and racist teenager.

A chilling indictment of the British police and justice system.. and society- that can not, will not do something to stop this..

The acting is really good, although the language and content is definately not suitable for Mary Whitehouse followers (to hell with that lot anyway!!). The film doesn't have an ending in the usual sense, letting the viewer make up their own mind as to what happens next. This isn't a cheerful film but it does pose some interesting questions and each viewer will respond differently towards Trevor the anti-hero. Even if you're not British, this is a powerful film to watch - the facial expressions alone make this a film worth viewing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Poignant reminder of a time gone by, 13 Jan 2010

Anyone that was in secondary school and slightly older at this time (1982) are likely to remember a feeling of despair of this era. Unemployment was high and I remember many at school feeling "what's the point?". With several riots in the UK the year before there was still a bad taste in the air. The young were leaving school with little hope and this film captured a snapshot of this time perfectly.

It was Tim Roth's first film and what a classic it is. For those of you that were there it is a reminder of how it was in the early 1980s to be that age. For those that weren't then you'll find it a fascinating look at how things were for many at that time.

'Made In Britain' is an excellent television drama from 1982, if you enjoy a gritty British movie, this is one to look out for.

Directed by the late Alan Clarke ('Scum', 'Rita, Sue and Bob Too' as well as 12 BBC 'Play For Today' films), I was immediately taken in by the story, as well as the impressive performance of Tim Roth. Set in the 1980s, Roth plays a bored, petty criminal Skinhead in Margaret Thatcher's Britain. It is his superb portrayal of a troubled man with no future of any real job prospects that makes this such a realistic and telling piece of drama. It is only when he is sent to an assessment centre when it is revealed that he is infact a very intelligent young man. His social worker sympathies with him and tries to put him of the straight and narrow. Any chance of this looks even more unlikely when he escapes from the centre, runs wild and steals cars.

'Made In Britain' is what television dramas should be, engaging and thoroughly entertaining. It deservedly received much acclaim when it was first televised and it still holds up well today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Alan Clarke!, 29 July 2012
This review is from: Made in Britain (Special Edition) [DVD] (DVD)
Superb British film among one of the best to be made in the 80s. Tim Roth delivers a very memorable performance here much like Ray Winstone in Scum.

Fans of this will also like The Firm, Elephant and Quadrophenia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Non conformism & its consequences, 10 Mar 2007

A really dark production showing the underbelly of Thatcher's Britain. Trevor, a law breaking & serial offending skinhead with racist (indeed, selectively & often contradictory, racist) views, works his way through the judicial system,as his behaviour & offences worsten.

Trevor isn't without a degree of intelligence (even cunning) but he is angry (indeed his anger seems to border on mental illness) & lives the the stereotypical existence of a right wing skin, with alife of glue sniffing, racial hatred, theft, vandalism & defiance of authority.

This film is very powerful & its potency increases,as we see Trevor descending into a spiral which will ultimately lead to a confrontation with the police, authority & the establishment which he begins to realise he can never win.

Illustrates brilliantly how a young life can be wasted if the circumstances dictate. Tim Roth is excellent in the role of Trevor & there are some marvellous performances by the rest of the cast (look out for a very young "Sergeant Cryer" from the Bill, as Trevor's social worker).

The final scene in the police station is particularly powerful as the reality of the situation his behaviour has placed him in, begins to dawn on a still defiant but far less arrogant Trevor.

Excellent British drama, well worth a punt.

A chilling indictment of the British police and justice system.. and society- that can not, will not do something to stop this..
Or is it about a thoroughly nasty, brutal, racist thug who will not let anything divert him from his path of self destruction?
Poor him for being stuck in a social system? Poor social workers/police that have to deal with him and others like him day after day? Poor society that has to have him running wild in it?
