Sling Media Slingbox - Watch Your Home Digital TV Anywhere

For starters, the webpage does not tell you much about the product itself, therefore I will briefly tell you it essentialy lets you watch television on your computer. Very handy with people who work away from home, or simply want to watch the latest episode of Lost (or even live tv) on your daily commute. You plug this device into say, your Sky box, and then hook it up to the internet and then using the bundled software (PC only for now Mac version being released soon) you can watch live TV using the on screen remote or any shows you have told it to record. It is very handy, and easy to set up, and now I have one I even use it around the house! For example I have replaced my sons television with a computer recently, and now he can watch TV on it anyway!

Another revelution in the Television industry, a must have if you want to be at the forefront of technoloigy, but if you do not watch television that much, or do not require to watch it away from home, then this may not be the product for you.

P.S you can also archive your recorded TV and cut out the adverts, and maybe burn them to DVD to view at a later time to save disc space!

This is one of those devices that changes the way you think of how everyday things work. This has been as revolutionary to the way I think of TV in the same way that they ipod completly redefined the way I use music. The first time I had it working is what I can only describe as an 'ipod moment'. The slingbox is a reason in itself to get broadband in your house.

I had it set up in less than 30 minutes. The instructions were easy. I downloaded software onto my desktop PC and was quickly able to watch and control my Sky TV in my bedroom. The whole sky remote works in the software perfectly. Great. Downloaded the software onto my laptop, no problem in the house. Worked perfect. Great. The only snag I did hit was that it told me during set-up that it would not work outside my house (which is rather the point) however, the screen guidance told me what the problem likely was (my router) and how to solve it. 10 minutes later (with a wee bit of help from google) I was perfect again - and I'm glad the set-up told me this before I went out.

So, I travel a lot with work, and have now been able to watch my home TV in real time, in Germany, Spain, Dubai, Australia, USA without any problem at all. Sitting on the beach, using the hotel wifi, watching the permier league on my laptop. How good is that?

I have since signed up with the mobile operator Three who have a deal with sling and software so that you can even watch it on your mobile phone (extra tenner a month for unlimited use). It is mental! and it works! To be honest I don't actually watch as much TV on my mobile as I thought I would (one of those things, just because you 'can' do something doesn't mean you will... however, it has saved me several times because I can set the sky + or whatever using it. The phone thing isn't an essential upgrade but it is a nice option to have.

This is a genius gadget - cool for anyone - but ESSENTIAL for anyone who travels overseas a lot, gets stuck in hotel rooms, and misses TV. At under £100 it is also just a ridiculous bargain.

This is a great item, easy to setup, and even easier to use. Watch and control Sky TV from your mobile phone, mac or pc. Biggest issue that isn't mentioned in the product literature is that you can only access it from one device at a time - ie forget streaming to two computers in different rooms of the house. Even so, its still a great product and you will be not be disappointed with it.

Nice idea and the best option in the market in my opinion if you want to view UK television remotely. One can use a VPN or continously find an UK IP address but for a one-off fee of £70, I opted for a Slingbox Classic. However, the setting up of the Slingbox Classic itself can be extremelty frustrating. It took me a whole week, 3 x two hours phone conversation with the customer service to get the thing working. (I do not consider myself an expert in technology but I am as good as the average person on the street on computers.) My advice is that do go and buy this product (or go for a more expensive and later version) but make sure you are allowed to get a refund if you cannot get it to work.

As someone who travels [a lot] for work, I couldn't live without my slingbox (this is the second one).

Being stuck in a hotel overseas with a choice of CNN or BBC News for 4 nights is depressing. However, with the slingbox connected to my second Sky+ box, I have access to all my recordings and programs.

You need a decent connection speed (upload (512kb+) as well as download) for the best quality, but even with a slower connection it's not bad.

If you're plugging this into your main TV device you will be sharing the screen with whoever is at home (hence why I use a second box), so it's worth checking if someone is already watching it, otherwise you could end up randomly changing channels on each other.

If you've got more than one device, then you'll need to look at the SlingBox Pro option, but for just one device this is fine.

You may also need to think about getting an ethernet bridge, if your slingbox is not in the same room as your router (there is no wireless connectivity)

This is an early version of the Slingbox. It functions very well when it functions, but there are some difficulties with sporadic behaviour. Technical help may eventually eradicate this, but it's a pity that a reasonably well-informed layman can't sort it.

Product works very well. Wonderful when travelling abroad to watch the best TV in the world (BBC, ITV, Ch4, 5 and all of SKY) and not have to make do with that awful american TV and the incessant adverts every 5 minutes and annoyingly padded-out programmes.
Had a little trouble with setting up the router for port forwarding but with a quick call to the Sling helpline the tech. guy took charge and fixed the problem in less than a minute! Well done Sling Media!

This is an excellent piece of kit ideally priced which fits my needs perfectly.

As I travel a great deal with my job and find myself at the mercy of the terrible TV you find in most hotels, the Slingbox allows me to watch my own TV over the internet. It also includes a remote control which allows me to change channels through the laptop screen.

got a laptop with mobile broadband (vodaphone 7.2 mbps) and asked pc world if it would work with a sling box - they said no - i searched the internet to see how others had got on and decided to buy a slingbox and try it for myself and while the picture isn't as good as when it is connected via my sky broadband at home it does work - the picture is good enough to enjoy the football when you are away from home
