This review is from: Tartini: Violin Concertos (Audio CD)
I'm slowly going backwards in time from my usual nineteenth and twentieth century listening ground and picked this CD up recently for a late Baroque-early-Classical era change. I'm pleased I did as I hear a more subtle style of music with a little less virtuosity demanded of the soloist.

That's not to say that Ariadne Daskaladis is anything other than a brilliant violinist. She and the sometimes skeletal accompaniment of the Cologne Chamber Orchestra play beautifully and have been recorded by Naxos in demonstration-quality sound.

The five violin concertos on this disc are quite varied three-movement works (fast-slow-fast) and are a most refreshing change from The Red Monk.

5.0 out of 5 stars very fine - comparable to carmignola or huggett (almost), 17 Nov. 2010

This review is from: Tartini: Violin Concertos (Audio CD)
This should become a first choice for people seeking introduction to Tartini's concertos - it displays the orchestral and solo quality (nearly) of carmignola, Huggett etc, and a stylish crack modern orchestra playing in a connvincing period style alongside the soloist. Slightly more lyrical and not quite as crunchy as Carmignola or, say, Manze, so not quite a demonstrative virtuoso sound, but technically faultless all the same as far as I can tell. 9/10 digital recording. As this is historically 50 or so years ahead of Vivaldi, one senses the classical lyricism creeping in, and crude hints of Haydn or Mozart, albeit in shorter vivaldian concertos. Recommended especially at such a cheap price.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Vivaldi Collection, 26 July 2013

This is very indicative of its time and place, though slightly outside his usual style. Rather more intense than some of previous pieces with depth amd musicality.Really worthwhile to sit and listen intently.
